1  eHam Forums / Elmers / FM VHF QRP DX on: April 13, 2009, 09:19:59 PM
Thanks.

Since I'm only using my FM handheld with a portable antenna, the feedline is only 3 feet long!

Is DXing even possible on VHF FM during sporadic e with only 5W?

I'm asking this because all I have is a VX-7R handheld and the Arrow Antenna (used for satellite contacts).

Thanks

4  eHam Forums / Elmers / Best low cost antenna for a school rooftop? on: January 22, 2009, 03:01:03 PM
Hi. I'm looking for a HF multiband antenna that would be practical for a school rooftop (flat) that'll cost less than $100 with minimal installation.

Note that the rooftop to the station is a very short distance... probably less than 30ft of feedline.

I've been reading about the G5RV but I get the impression that the invert v configuration (space saving) isn't as promising.

Thanks.
5  eHam Forums / Clubs / Donations for school club? on: January 13, 2009, 02:49:55 PM
Hello to all,

I've just started a ham radio club at my school with the callsign WP4NYK, with me being the trustee.

It's been sometime already and our club is still in real need of equipments. Without a radio, we can't really do anything. We're trying our best to raise funds.

I'm asking if there are any radio amateurs out there that would be willing to donate some old radio equipment, etc. for starting a station.

N2RRA has donated some equipments to us (thank you!), but we still need a working radio as of now and other things to get a station up and running.
Any help anyone can provide will be great.

Any questions about anything... please email me at wp4nxa@arrl.net
or reply here if you cannot reach me via email.

I assure you this is not a fraud.

,Thanks

6  eHam Forums / Elmers / Dipole rooftop mounting on: September 16, 2008, 07:10:30 PM
What's the best way to mount wire dipoles on a rooftop. What mounting hardware should I use at a reasonable price. If there is a non penetrating way- even better cause it's a school rooftop. Also, please link to a company's site if you can.

Also, is just drilling a mast enough to support an HF vertical?

Thanks.

7  eHam Forums / Elmers / Reburbishing a TS-820 on: September 15, 2008, 03:56:16 PM
Hey.

Today, we just received a donation from a local ham to our school radio club. It's a TS-820. I think we'll sand it and paint over it because it just look pretty old and rusted... Any suggestions for testing the radio that probably hasn't been used for years?

Thanks.
8  eHam Forums / Elmers / ISS School Contact... on: September 12, 2008, 06:13:45 PM
Let's say that I am applying my school for a ARISS contact. Typically, assuming that it'll be approve, how long does it take?

Thanks... and the cheapst way for getting equipment for a requirement for school contact?
