31  eHam Forums / CW / Listening to morse code. on: May 28, 2008, 05:57:13 PM
Thanks, one question about the program. It says on the top the default for speed is 12 / 18 WPM.
If I want to do 20 wpm, do I put 20/20?

When you listen to morse code, can you understand it already without copying it onto paper or you do?

34  eHam Forums / Elmers / ARES on: May 17, 2008, 02:33:27 PM
Hi! I am still not sure how ARES works but I do want to be able to help out during emergencies. I'm still in school so I know what I'll be getting in to if I do join the ARES. Also, can I join if I'm already part of another organization, like my school's radio club?

By the way, can the club join the ARES as a whole?
35  eHam Forums / Elmers / Radiograms; public service on: May 17, 2008, 01:26:36 PM
So even if I'm not in the NTS, I can use the ARRL radiogram to pass traffic?
36  eHam Forums / Elmers / Radiograms; public service on: May 17, 2008, 11:36:09 AM
DO you necessarily need to participate in the NTS to send or help pass on radiograms, for example- locally or even a demo in school?

Also, say there was a school activity, can we use ham radio to help with communications within school?
37  eHam Forums / Youth / Proposing a school ham radio club? on: May 04, 2008, 03:02:13 PM
I'm actually a student myself and thought it to be a preety cool thing to have at my school.
38  eHam Forums / Elmers / Newbie antenna question on: May 02, 2008, 03:45:14 PM
I was imagining that HF vertical and a UHF/UHF vertical could be mounted on some piping. Is that strong enough for i need a mast?
39  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Towers needed? A newbie question. on: May 02, 2008, 12:34:18 PM
Adding to my post, from what I researched, vertical antennas are installed on masts. If so, how would you install the mast to a building. Is the mast usually included with the antenna? (I assume not, any recomendation?) ?

thanks again
40  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Towers needed? A newbie question. on: May 02, 2008, 12:22:12 PM
For example for a three-story building, do you need any sort of towers or guywires or whatever when installing a vertical antenna (HF and a VHF/UHF one) or you just screw on some screw and you are good? Are everything you need come out of the box with the antenna or do you need other sort of supports?

----------------------
Also when instally a OSCAR yagi antenna on a AZ/EL rotor, how would this be done on the roof. Do you need so sort of support or u just buy the rotor and the antenna and that's it?

Please keep in mind that they don't be very high up in the sky. It's a school's roof.

Thanks
41  eHam Forums / Elmers / Newbie antenna question on: May 02, 2008, 12:12:24 PM
For the OSCAR style one, it would be used for ISS, satellites and local contacts. As for the HF vertical, I would like to do world wide. Can a HF vertical do worldwide for u need a yagi???
42  eHam Forums / Elmers / Newbie antenna question on: May 02, 2008, 11:54:59 AM
I'm trying to start a club at my school at would like to get so info on antenna.

For example, I would like to have 2 meters, 70cm, and HF capabitlies for the shack. I assume separate anntenas are needed, like a OSCAR style beam antenna for the UHF,VFH ( to satisfy requirements for organize ISS contact) and a HF vertical antenna ( can a vertical do worldwide?). How would such a set up be installed? Is 2 separate trancevers needed or a HF+uhf/vhf can be used and a antenna switch is used.

Please understand that I'm trying to start a club and would like to have a organize ISS contact as well as adding HF capability to the shack. Antennas are importart, therefore I asked about HF vertical antennas because they're less noticible.

Please use easier terms for me cause I'm new to ham radio.

Thanks a whole lot!

Also, are there ''OSCAR style circular polarized beam antenna'' that can work HF as well. Thanks
44  eHam Forums / Elmers / New High School Club? on: May 01, 2008, 09:01:41 PM
I do think I have school's support. However, advisor's don't have a license. I do. It is a private school.
45  eHam Forums / Elmers / New High School Club? on: May 01, 2008, 08:39:05 PM
I am trying to start an amateur radio club at my high school. If I do succeed, is there anything I should know- such as forms for a call sign and so on? How should I approach the school to put an antenna on the roof- one that would quality for a ISS contact. Thank for all the info in advance.
