1  eHam Forums / Digital / FT-450 and PK-232 on: March 14, 2009, 05:31:33 PM
I failed to say I AM using Airmail and have tried Paclink as well.  Neither will hear any Pactor.

So my original question remains how do I get the PK-232 to hear the Pactor signal.  Using the correct cable that passes send and receive from the radio and the TNC.

I do see a difference when the audio (headphone jack) is connected to the audio connector on the TNC.  But still no Pactor heard Ham or MARS.

Also on that same line of thought can't see anything in the water fall on RTTY and such either.  So I have to suspect a bad setup somewhere.

3  eHam Forums / Clubs / History of the Elmendorf AFB Radio Club on: December 11, 2008, 10:16:36 AM
Update.

I now have a copy of a Call Log page from 1960 (NL7BGZ) that shows a contact with KL7AIR.  So I have confirmation that the call dates back to 1960 anyway.

Even have a few QSL Card copies from the 70's as well.  Still looking for information on any club station that has been on Elmendorf as well as any additional documentation of the KL7AIR call.

If you have QSL cards from KL7AIR and can either part with them or copy them for us it would be appreciated.
Look at the old call logs for any contacts prior to the ninties anyway.  If you happen to have a Silent Keys collection stuffed away somewhere, take some time to look through it for possible contact info.

Again, this is a Club Project to document the history of the KL7AIR Call as well as any Military Club Station on Elmendorf AFB.

Thanks,

Not too long ago QRZ started subscription for service.  You will note that if you try to do a Forum or sell/buy something you have to be logged in.  Same as here on EHam.
Donate a few bucks to QRZ, help them keep it going. Then you will have a username/password to use the direct process.  I use it for my logging program and it works great.

5  eHam Forums / Elmers / Possible Dipole configuration? on: September 18, 2008, 11:58:40 AM
If I took a basic half wave dipole on say 40 meters and instead of teminating it as a single wire I Tee off the ends.   Idea being to gain some length on an A-Frame roof.  I live in an antenna controlled area (HOA) and while the G5RV I have "hidden" on the roof works ok, if I can improve it......

Right now there is a stealthy 102 foot G5RV (300 ohm twin lead fed) lying flat on a non-conductive roof.
A-Frame style roofline.  By running a tee off the ends I lengthen a dipole.  Would that actually do anything for me or would it simple be better to run the single wire off at a 90 degree down the roof line on each end?
Wondering if the Tee end would act like a tophat of sorts.

I would gain possbily another 30 feet of length on each end as a single wire and say 45 feet if tee ended.

So in theory I go from a wire thats 102 feet long to one that is 180-190 feet long.  Or if a single wire run 165-168 feet long with the ends run off at a 90 degree angle.  Not looking to add to the G5RV will build a new dipole using a balun and ladder line etc..as needed.

The single wire would get close to being tunable on 160m (expect a narrow portion anyway) and the Tee version if it tunes would be an interesting radiation pattern I know.  But considering that I currently use a G5RV lying on the roof, odd radiation pattern is how I live already...hi hi.

6  eHam Forums / APRS / Possible issue with FindU on: August 27, 2008, 02:18:24 PM
Been doing side by side checks between APRS.fi and Findu.com.

This morning I was reported by FindU as being in Russia, this afternoon it reports me as being in San Salvador.
APRS.fi has me correctly in Anchorage AK everytime.

I have contacted FindU, he was suprised to hear that something was being reported wrong.  I checked raw packets and other than QRT reports not being understood or being reported as malformed packets everything looks good.  Again two websites using same info get different results.  Needless to say I will be using APRS.fi from now on.
