I'll second the ARR preamps. I have the 160 watt models and power them through the coax with my 910, and now my new 9100. I would recommend SATPC32 for radio and rotor control.

3  eHam Forums / Emergency Communications / RE: UV-5R FOR PART 90 FIRE DEPT USAGE. on: March 30, 2013, 06:27:11 AM
I was in the fire service for 23 years, and I wouldn't entertain the thought of using those radios for operations. They just aren't designed to take the abuse in my opinion. I appreciate the budgetary constraints, but when the s**t hits the fan and somebody's $100 radio craps out, who is going to accept responsibility? There are many grants available to aid in equipment purchases.

I heard people talking on 145.901 USB today at 0915hrs pacific time with my beams pointed due west. I had to follow their doppler and use my rotor to keep them. I'm trying to figure out what sat that is and how to track it. I never got call signs or locations, as it faded on me pretty fast.

145.901 USB would be in VO-52's passband.

Check out this Power Point on the U100 rotors.

Yes, the 92AD does D-STAR on both bands, but only one band at a time

Jon,

Why are you limiting yourself to passes with 40 degrees max elevation, do you need that elevation to work AO-27?

I haven't compared your location to the schedule to verify if you are reading it correctly.

If you are looking for doppler control for the 9100, take a look at SatPC32. It is available at http://www.dk1tb.de/downloadeng.htm

As a demo, it is fully functional but you have to input your location every time the program starts.  You can purchase the key for it through AMSAT  http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/ which will store all your settings. Support for it is outstanding via the AMSAT BB.

Good luck,

13  eHam Forums / Satellites / RE: Need a spot check on my satellite plans, please. on: April 09, 2012, 08:23:34 AM
Chris,

I would ditch the RG8X and shoot for either 9913 or LMR400 ultra flex if you can afford it. The RG8X has too much loss at UHF and VHF frequencies.

I just read Mike's instructions for setting up AGW Online Kiss, and it sounds pretty straight forward. Are you sure you have the port info setup correctly in AGWPE? http://www.kc2rlm.info/soundcardpacket/2agwbasic.htm#portsettings

Which satellites are you trying to get the telemetry from? We could give you more specific info.
