I did something similar to this:

http://static.dxengineering.com/pdf/WeatherProofingCoax-TechTip.pdf

The only difference was I actually put electrical tape underneath the self sealing tape, and the electrical tape was wrapped sticky side out, to ease removal. Then I applied the self sealing tape, than I covered the entire mess with another layer of electrical tape.  I also filled the coax connectors with some type of dialectric paste to resist moisture.

Works good, lasts long time.

Well, I use my full wave 80 meter horizontal loop (up only 25 ft) for swl'ing and hamming on 10 - 80 meters.  As you can imagine it excells on the lower bands, it's a great multi-band antenna.  There are lots of other really great options that I have no experience with.  If you want to see how it works you can check my qrz logbook and some of my swl and dx contacts on youtube under 'Desmoface.'

73's es good luck.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the replies, this answers a lot of my questions.

Hey everyone, I stumbled upon this video and started thinking tha this would work with my ts-870, as it has an i.f. Out (at 8.83, via an rca connector).  I downloaded the isdr app on my ipad, and it appears that all i'd have to do is get the camera kit, and the griffin i-mic.

My question is, am I feeding the if out into the i-mic, or audio from the rcvr?  Anyway, here's the video:

I notice that there arent many options to get the spectrum display for my imac, so this may be the next best thing.

Thanks for any advice.

Interesting, mine also doesn't like 15, I'm feeding mine with plain ole coax.

Steve

I have had very nice luck with an 80 meter full wave loop fed with ladder line and a tuner.  It didn't 'like' 15 meters for some reason, but I didn't use 15 meters anyway.  - Paul

I'm particularly fond of my loop.  Mine is cut for 80 meters, and it's only up about 25 ft, but I have no problems working plenty of dx with 100 watts.  Worked this guy this past Saturday, on 17 meters.

I'm no engineer, and I am certainly not as experienced as others here, but it was not hard to put up, and it's stayed up for many, many years and it easilly works all bands between 10-80 with the rigs tuner (except 15).  It's not as good as a vertical on 10-20, but it's perfectly usable.  Just something to consider, if you have the mounting points. 73's and good luck with whatever you do.

Apparently, this is his day job:

There is a picture of the cr-1 which shows a spectrum display on the oled screen (on the above website).  On the video's that are on youtube, I don't even see an s-meter.  I'm still interested to see how it performs out in the wild.

The Yeasu is a nice rig, but the TS-590 has garnered critical acclaim for it's great receiver.  If you can't hear them you can't work them.

Good luck,
