Hi Kuby, Hope your doing okay up there. I always put mine below the beam on the mast out of the rf plane. No biggie on pig tail length. I made mine from a 8 in piece of PVC to G3TXQ's data. Of course a Ferrite is better...but I have had good luck just following the instructions lol. No real common mode to speak of. If you looking to buy one http://www.hy-gain.com/Product.php?productid=BN-86 is pretty okay one packaged. I would stay away from the cheapos. Email me direct or catch me on the air if you need any help. PS are you helping the the special events this year? 73 Dave KD8GEH

My 2 cents...
I have owned one for a year and love it. All the locals have bought them and are very happy bang for the buck. They aren't yeasus or kenwood but rival in performance. A little learning curve to program but no big deal. Hot tip, use the software to program and you will be fine. Join the Yahoo group and read the FAQ there.
I carry mine daily and hit the repeaters no issues. A aftermarket antenna or mobile improves them as well. The factory antennas are soo soo but fine for local and small.

eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: mounting 102 inch stainless steel whip on truck bedside

My 2 cents For a 102 in whip you really need the HD mount, better yet the mount with HD spring. The antenna naturally vibrates, esp the fiberglass ones hihi. This tends to loosen the mount bolt on longer antennas. A 4 foot whip is usually fine with the thru hole mount. Been there done that... 73 and have fun! Dave KD8GEH
