16  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Setting up Echolink on a Linksys Router on: February 01, 2013, 11:41:40 AM
Hi Tom,

I didnt really have any issue settting it up with mine.  Read the port forwarding instructions here: http://www.echolink.org/firewall_solutions.htm print or write down type port type and number (UDP.tcpip etc)

Log into your router setup 192.168.1.1 (admin no pass or whatever u have as a uname & pass)

Read this and poke the right setup tab  Shocked  http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54G/defaultguide.htm

Email me direct (my call at arrl dot com) if you need any more help. Just take your time and you should be fine.

GL and hope to hear you on HF or IRLP sometime.

17  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Aftermarket ant for Wouxun KG-UV6D recommendations? on: January 22, 2013, 10:14:37 AM
I use a Jetstream version, cheaper with the same published gain as the big boys. I dont recall the PN from memory (at work) but I had a great impovement on VHF from the stock on my UV5R. It is a little longer though.   Let me know if you are interested, I can post the part number later.

18  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Good distance for supports of a loop? on: January 22, 2013, 10:05:16 AM
The right answer is enough, depending on your loop configuration and rope weight limits. I use a sling shot and exsisting trees for my 160 meter loop and feed it with a home brew stub feeder of ladder line with a ugly balun. Love the darn thing, works well on all bands and is pretty quiet compared to my dipoles.

Hot tip, I use plastic clothes line pulleys to feed the wire through on mine and carbon rope for support. My wire "floats" in the pulleys and can be moved as needed at the feedpoint. This seems to help quite a bit keeping keeping it from breaking from my old method platic insulators. Been up for about 4 years now. Last tip, get as high as you can, where you can.

Best of luck and feel free to contact me if you need any further help.

Hi,

You shouldn't see much if any interaction between the coaxes.

Black tape works or tie straps using  care not to oertighten.

20  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / RE: No Sliders on HRD with Icom 756 (non pro) on: January 09, 2013, 02:09:35 PM
Never heard of that one Tongue I assume u mean the freq sliders.

Are you getting any errors when u press the connect button in the window?

Another thing to check is the specific setup in options. The sliders are configurable, you may have them unchecked.

You can try the HRD forms as well and prb get a better answer rig specific, or try your luck at emailing Rick at HRD.

73 and Good Luck.

21  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: 11 meter question - sorry guys on: November 13, 2012, 01:35:56 PM
Oh the memories!

That radio was "Strapped and Snipped". The old SBEs were pretty cool old CB's. Good job restroring it back to factory. I have a few ri9gs restored packed away for the same reason. Lafayettes, Uticas, and even a old SBE Brute (SBE-34).

Those old screwdriver jockeys did some intereting things. I even remember a mod called a "christmas tree" they did to white face Johnson tube rigs that bumped up the power Smiley

Anyhow, thanks for the trip down memory lane.

22  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Best dual-band mobile antenna on: October 29, 2012, 06:45:47 AM
Hi,

I have been very pleased with the Diamond SG7900ANMO. Nice gain for dual band antenna (you will need it at low power), folder over mast to get into garages etc.

Hope this helps.

23  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: HY GAIN TH-2MK3, Anyone Using This Yagi? on: October 08, 2012, 07:38:15 PM
Although I dont use one, talked to a few. Fair antenna for limited space. If moneys no object, look at the stepper 2 element. http://www.steppir.com/2-element-yagi, gets you all the bands in between too.  Mt 2 cents  Smiley

Hope ta talk to ya soon whatever you end up with!

Make it 270 feet total for starters and google 80 meter loop. If you need help email me at my call at arrl dot net. Run the MFJ thru the 80 meter and bends below and look for your dips in SWR, tweak as needed  Grin

M-119 Antenna Specialist Super Scanner. Relay box is good for about 500 watts. I had a few. Easy to convert to 10, some had a tuning stub of coax out of the relax box to match it. About 7 db in each of three directions 3... somethin omni. Great antenna if its the right price.

27  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Concrete form, or just pour it in the hole?? on: September 23, 2012, 06:29:40 PM
My 2 cents:

I do the hole, use rebar cross hatch and into the ground. I always form above ground 2-6 inches as the other op mentioned and slope the top for water runoff. I would suggest never covering the bottom of the tower with dirt or allowing water to lay the the tower base. The issue with this is the tower can eventually rust, weaken and fail. Makes for an interesting ride to the ground from the top! There's a lot more to it than cosmetics hihi.  Shocked

Theres a reason I know this, but shall never admit it in an open forum... or have I already ¿  Embarrassed

oSounds like it needs some TLC and alignment.  Not hard, look for the service manual.
I have one, great rig.

Hi

Not enough info to help you .  What interface, operating system are you using?  HRD is a little tricky with communications errors.  If possible dont use usb converter cables, direct com ports always better.  Fixed many an issue with a 9 dollar pci card.

You can email direct if you like.  call at arrl dot net

Good luck,

30  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Can a full-wave loop be "too large" for higher band operation? on: July 29, 2012, 03:35:32 AM
Hi,

I have a 544 ft loop fed with  stub of 450 ladder line at 40 feet avg height, feed point in at about 35 feet. Awesome on 160, so so on 80, awesome on 40 & 20.

Very quiet compared  to the dipole.  I love it!!!!

Big antenna nice receive.... I would try it just for fun see how it works for u.
