46  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Free 80 meter reversable beam. on: January 20, 2012, 01:53:30 PM
Hi Bob,

Is this the one with the relay and the 82 degree feeds? Just curious.. Interested in getting something similar for the my station so I can hear DaveS a little better and point it down his throat  Grin. You sound just fine off the back tho Tongue

I have the room, but now the test gear you need. I know you have a guy to test per our qso..let me know how it works out. If you have a sketch let me know, very interested. Like to build one if its within my limited skill set.

Take care and 73,
Dave KD8GEH Dayton

Hi Kirk!

Try RTR Electronics on the left coast. Look for Ron WM8Z, hes the man! He fixes the old jewels, has the model you have listed in his arsenal.

48  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: What's the lowest temp I can an operate an amp? on: January 14, 2012, 08:10:59 AM
Hi,

You and I have something in common  Grin   I operate my station from my barn shack in Ohio as well and have had no issues, doing it for years. I keep the amp, rig and mic covered faithfully.

I usually allow the gear to stabilize for 20 mins or so when possible, run the amp for a min just to be safe.  My only warning is use care in sub zero, esp with the microphone (if hi end like Heil). i do bring that in the house below zero. Why? That's another story .   Roll Eyes

Hi,

Rig is known to have overheating issues. Also, what is your SWR? That will compound the issue.

Good luck,  Dave
50  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Help adding Revolver Map to QRZ.com? on: January 07, 2012, 01:38:37 AM
I had some issues with the revolving earth map. The code was causing other issues. Take a look at my page and see if the visitor map does the trick.  If so, email me at arrl and I will try and get you started.

Hint - you sometimes have to save and exit the editor a couple times for it to take.

51  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: Slight hum on my DENTRON CLIPPERTON L on: January 02, 2012, 08:02:14 AM
Hi,

Amp hum in audio is usually power supply related. As the other OM said, an amp will also amplify the exciter noise.

If you are not familiar with amps, be carefull or get some help from a friend with experience.

I would check the capacitors, diodes in the power supply first off.

Yep, sounds like you need a choke. I use 8 turns of rg213 for 20. Google it, theres a chart out there that tells you number of turns vs freq. Make sure your rig is grounded, try a hand mic for grins to make sure where its coming from.

http://www.qsl.net/ta1dx/amator/broadband_baluns.htm

I have about a 1.5 or less on all my dipole in my ant farm. I feed coax thru air chokes (im poor) and work the world no problem. I have one mic suseptable on 40, so I learned from moving mics wires, ferrites, and ant positions. No worries...

Email me at arrl dot net if you need any help.

Amazing, dead for 30 years and back for DX!!! Just kidding, couldnt help it.  I have an R-7.. so so compared to my 160 loop and my DX-LB dipole.

It sounds like your antenna will do well considering the restrictions you have.

Best lof luck in your second life DX'ing  Grin

54  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: DC AMP & VOLT METERS on: December 20, 2011, 02:24:06 PM
My 2 cents  Grin

I like installing my own. You can get nice china ammeters and volt meters about 8 bucks a pop. Depending on the model, you may have to throw a 5 volt regulator on the 12 volt side to power the meter... no worries.

Here are some ideas if you like to "roll your own" :

You can check with Bob Heil, but, I have had a very nice experiences with the ICM series (see link). I also LOVE the GM gold line dual element. I'm not sure if its computable out of the box.
Drop Bob an Email or give Donna at Heil a call (618) 257-3000. She will give you the scoop on the best bang for the buck etc.

56  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: UTC time clock for computer desktop on: December 06, 2011, 02:49:15 PM
Win 7 32 and 64 both support the second clock option like vista. You can swap them around however you like.  I use my Ham Radio Deluxe clock and set it to UTC usually when i'm operating, logging anyhow.

Have fun & 73  De Dave KD8GEH
57  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: To upgrade or not upgrade kenwood ts450s on: November 22, 2011, 07:23:19 AM
I would.!   You will love something with a modern DSP and sensitivity. I have a TS-430S, the difference when I upgraded was unbelievable.

Your call in the end, FT-2000 is nice, New Kenwood is getting some nice reviews too. Lots of them out there.

58  eHam Forums / Misc / QRZ Issues..again on: November 16, 2011, 07:56:03 PM
Hi all,

I know QRZ changed some stuff again on the 7th. Worked my way thru that and bought a subscription. Now it appears the site is down altogether.

Anybody else having this issue today? Not really seeing anything posted on the web for this particular instance?

Anyone else seeing the issue?

Thanks

Kick,

It has a SMD 3 am fuse on the board. Check out this site, it gives you the skinny.
