K9KJM, My point in posting was not to start a flame war, MAC vs PC,Beta VS VHS... It was to correct the information you posted that was not true, incorrect, false so others aren't misinformed. Just as I stated. Echolink is fine, so is IRLP, and many other protocols out there. Your statement on on IRLP being only for linking repeaters is simply not true, false..or miss informed. I am well aware if the operating systems advantages and disadvantages in Echolink and many other software platforms. I consider this a non issue. Just kindly correcting your error for the benefit of others. Please research your data for your posts in the future.
Thank you, KD8GEH

K9KJM: just to be clear, IRLP is not quite dead, nor being replaced. As a matter a fact quite alive and as functional as Echolink. You can run IRLP simplex, repeater, reflector, mini-node and much more. I have found echo link works ok, but not quite as stable as IRLP. Check out the web: http://irlp.net/ Just My opinion and a clarification so others arent mislead. All the best and 73 Dave KD8GEH IRLP Node 8921

I would look at the antenna too. Is it resonant somewhere, near hung something interacting? Is the ladder line away from metal. Lots of things that could cause that.

I agree wit the other gents. You have plenty of room for a home brew multi, trap multiband like a Alpha Delta DX-CC or LB or a nice vertical. Go for a HF rig, even a nice used FT-857 is pretty reasonable, my firrst rig was a Kenwood TS-430. Still have it and use it for vacations and field day. Try not to llimit yourself If you need any more help, let us know! 73 Dave KD8GEH

Thanks for the input everyone, lots of good info.
Steve, I looked at the board and did some a lil troubleshooting. Appears the failure was caused by over heat. Regarding questions, called Mirage, not really interested in support of the older amps. Spent some time looking for someone at Motorola or ON semi that can answer replacement question. No joy yet...you know the drill. I will try that again next week.
Appreciate the efforts all,

Not sure if this helps, but I feed ine with a 9 foot section of ladder line directly soldered to RG8X, then a ugly balun and into the shack. I did a little hunt and shoot with alligator clips starting at 12 feet to find out where it dipped, then shortened up a little at a time to find the sweet spot. It tunes and operates quite well on 10, 15, 20, 40 and 80. Your results may vary Have fun! 73, Dave KD8GEH

Hi all,
I have a friend that has had an ongoing issue finding replacement transistors for the Mirage B1016 2 meter amp. I pointed him to RF parts, but several hundred bucks later no joy, they blow out of the box, 1 of 3 works but no where near the gain needed. The OEM PN is Motorola PN SRF2838.
My research indicate they are NPN EPITAXIAL PLANAR TYPE VHF power transistors. Appears that Toshiba 2sc2782 are similar but not quite there.
I cant find a Motorola to save my soul, nor a data sheet. Has anyone run into this issue? I have a contact willing to make them for us if we can come up with the data sheet for the original Motorola.
My friend has 2 of these amps needing these, and I would imagine there are more out there.
Any suggestions, data sheets or help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, 73 DE Dave KD8GEH

I have a VX-150, awesome little HT. With a little better antenna they work very well. The FT-270 is very similar..either would do the trick on the trail. Dual band is nice feature to have for repeaters... if you need them. Good luck on your exam. Go for General or Extra asap. Its awesome to work the world portable as well. Check the FT-817ND 73 Dave De KD8GEH

That is a tough one, I wonder if you could elevate a butternut vertical and run ground radials isolated and get by? Let us know what you decide, a tower is least compromise option but understand your situation.
73 n good luck Kd8geh. Dave

Hi Jeff, I have a Super Tuner Plus, great lil box when I need it. Just tune at lowest letter setting for the band your on. I use a (old guy) cheat sheet. When I got it I noted the settings for the bottom, mid and top of each band, then put the settings on a spread sheet and laminated it. You will need a swr meter to use with it to determine the correct settings. The manual is at BAMA here: http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/dentron/16010at/Enjoy! 73 De Dave KD8GEH
