4  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / autopatch software on: June 10, 2005, 11:38:34 AM
im not understanding why i would want to use EchoStation with my repeater...  all i want is some autopatch software to connect my kenwood tkr-750 to a phone line...  EchoStation is meant for controlling 2 radios, turning them into a repeater.

i used 3 computer psu's connected in series to power my mobile radio, just had to get a voltage regulator to get it a little lower than 15vdc, other than that it works great

8  eHam Forums / Contesting / First International IRLP Contest Begins March 18 on: March 15, 2005, 05:55:44 AM
NEWINGTON, CT (Mar 11, 2005) -- Only IRLP contacts will be allowed in this, the first running of the International IRLP Contest. The contest will be held starting March 18, 2005 at 0001 UTC and ending April 17, 2005 at 2359 UTC.

Points will be awarded as follows:

1 point for a contact with someone not in the contest in your own country

2 points for a contact with someone in the contest in your own country

2 points for a contact with someone in another country who is not in the contest

3 points for a contact with someone in the contest in another country

5 points for contact with single node countries and special event stations such as the InternationalInternational Space Station

The following information must be included in your log: Name, QTH, Node #, Contact # (for example, “You are number 001.”) Any contacts without this information will be counted as a single point contact.

At present, the logging program that will be used will be DXKEEPER, which is available free on-line.

For those without computers, paper logs are to be sent to Bruce Dehn, WB7OTQ, 306 Cripple Creek Ct, Virginia Beach, VA 23452, USA. Logs should be sent in within 30 days of the end of the contest.

At present we have the use of reflector 9250 and should have others by contest start time. Any node may be used as long as the node owner does not object. The contest is 30 days, which should help with people talking over one another. We are trying to promote IRLP as a viable means of communications and also to introduce newcomers to DX IRLP Style. This will help those amateurs who don’t have HF privileges. Feel free to contact WB7OTQ via e-mail or via telephone after 3 PM Eastern at 757-306-4292.

The sponsoring nodes are:

6391 in Melbourne -- Graham, VK3JBO, is head honcho there;

4865 in Portsmouth, Virginia -- Keith, KG4ZXK, or Bruce, WB7OTQ. -- Bruce Dehn, WB7OTQ

10  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / Kenwood TH-D7A(G) Programming on: January 11, 2005, 11:47:01 AM
I did not make the cable myself, I bought it.  It was however, wired incorrectly.  Kenwood made an error in their manual with the pin-outs for the cable.  I opened up the d sub shell, switched pins 2&3, and now it works perfectly.  Wonder why kenwood never got around to fixing this typo, or at least put in a 'manual supplement' sheet for their error, they already have 2 other supplement sheets.  anyhow, all is well now.
11  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / Kenwood TH-D7A(G) Programming on: January 06, 2005, 09:40:34 AM
I recently got the pg-4w cable for my kenwood th-d7a(g).  I downloaded MCP-D7G from kenwoods website, but cannot get it to read or write to the radio, it gives me connection timeout errors.  is there some kind of key combo i need to press while turning on my ht (on my two yaesu radios i need to put it into 'clone' mode on powerup).  thanks in advance.

14  eHam Forums / Elmers / computer power supply project on: April 21, 2004, 04:21:39 PM
i made one of these power supplies out of 3 computer psu's connected in series from the 5v lead.  In the end i had a little over 15vdc at over 20 amps, you can easily bring down the voltage by adding a high rated diode or two.  havent had a problem with it yet.
15  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / Yaesu FT-7100M on: March 12, 2004, 07:46:52 PM
I am not sure if this is the problem, but i assume the finals on the transmitter have failed.  It happened while i was in the middle of a conversation with someone.  Now I cannot hit a repeater a couple miles away on full power (50w) but I can pickup my signal with an ht in the same room.  I have not noticed anything else with the radio besides the transmitting problem, my reception has not been effected at all (noticible to me at least).  According to the manual "The high power output of the FT-7100M is produced by its 2SK3478 Power MOS FET amplifier..."  would this be an easy part to find, so far i havent been able to find one using google.  Also, is there any other possibilities for my transmitter to give out?  Thanks.
