I think I'll take a look through the web sites rather than those rather expensive ARRL books - I 'tested' myself without any practice or even having looked at the courses and managed 56% so I shouldn't have much to do (I hope).

I'm based in Cupertino just north of San Jose and my email is steve@xaraonline.com.

Regards

Steve

Hi

Thanks for that - it's very helpful.

I have a couple of choices in that I can either do the UK test when I am back there on a trip and upgrade to A/B or do the US tests - but my G6 dates from 1978 so I'll have to learn the theory again Sad and it's probably a bit like 'Who wants to be a Millionaire' - I answer all the UK questions and fail at $300 on the US version Smiley

Did I understand it correctly that the code test is receive only - is their no send needed?

Again thanks for your help - I'll listen out for you on 10 (hamstick mounted on apartment balcony) and maybe if I can get the code sorted even be able to reply.

Many thanks

Steve

Hi

I am now living in California and want to get a US license - I have been a UK G6 (no code) since 1978 but would like to get limited HF now I am here.

So I guess my G6 will give me UHF/VHF but can I upgrade to HF by just taking the 5wpm code test? or do I have to take the written FCC test too?

Any advice or at least pointers to a local contact who might know the answers would be appreciated
