31  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Amplifier Tubes on: December 09, 2008, 01:20:46 PM
I have just been given a Drake L-4B Amplifier. (yes given)
It is very clean and had been used up until about 2 months ago.

I know the person who gave it to me and take his word as gospel.

Is there a way or how do you check the tubes to see if they are "Matched" or if they need to be replaced?

32  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Rotor Contol Reversable Face Plate on: November 15, 2008, 09:31:43 AM
I have a Ham 2 rotor and control box.

It has a North centered meter face on it.

Where can I get a South Centered meter face and how do I install/replace the one I have.

(If this can be done)

Thanks

33  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Mounting Rotor Inside Tower on: October 28, 2008, 06:44:45 AM
I have a Ham 2 rebuilt rotor and control box.
I have designed the base plate for my tower. (it fits!!)

I have also set up the cutout pattern for the mounting holes and the wire connections for the base plate. Have not cut these out yet on the plate)

I have downloaded the manual for this unit but it does not say anything about having to mount the rotor on the base plate in any specific direction.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to mount the rotor to the base plate sot it will be as close to being N,S, E, W as possible??

My tower will have a single leg pointing due South and the other 2 legs will be pointing due North.

This is my first tower project and I want to get this right the first time.

34  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Rotor Base Plate for Tower on: October 22, 2008, 07:30:45 PM
I have a 40' tower. I do not believe it is a Rohn. I am starting to draw up the plans to make a Rotor support/base plate for it.

I have seen on ebay the Rohn rotor base plates. It looks exactly like the one I'm designing.

Does anyone have the specs on this base plate?? If I can buy one cheap it will save me a ton of aggrivation in fabricating the one I designed.

The measuements on my design:

From inside the leg to outside of the opposite straight leg is 9-1/4" (from the point of the trinagle to the flat opposite side)

Thanks

37  eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / 5 element 6m Yagi questions on: September 19, 2008, 07:40:44 AM
I have inherited all the parts for a 5 element 6m Yagi. (FOR FREE!!)

The only thing that I do not have is the directions as to how to put it together.

Here are the specs on the parts on hand.

Boom length is 12 ft

Reflector element length is 116"
Driven element lenght is 110"
Director element 1 length is 140.5"
Director element 2 length is 103"
Director element 3 length is 101"

There are several different making s on the boom like it was used for several different set ups. So I do not want to go by them.
I need to get this right the first time because once it is up it will be very difficult to adjust it. It will be going up on top of a 50' tower.

Can someone give me some direction on this?

I need to make sure I get the spacing right the first time.

I have looked around on the internet for a program to assist me but since I have never built one of these before I'm not sure of how or which program to look at.

Thanks

Bob

38  eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / Anntenna Pros and Cons on: August 08, 2008, 12:28:23 PM
First of all, Thanks to everyone that replied to my previous post about antennas.

I have narrowed it down to 2 selections:

Mosley Mini-33A or Mini-33A WARC

or a Hex Beam

Can I get your views on the pros and cons of these antennas. I am hearing good things about both. What i would like is if you use one of these please send my why you like it and what problems you have had with them and how you fixed/delt with that problem.

Your input will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

39  eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / What HF Beam to buy? on: July 24, 2008, 03:49:34 AM
I have my General ticket.
I've been operating HF now for a little over a year now.
Using a 6btv vert for my current antenna.
It is doing a fine job.

Rig is a IC735 with a AT-150 tunner.

I am in the process of putting up a 40' tower.

Will have a rotor in the next couple of months.

will need to get a beam by spring of next year so when I put up the tower I will have it.

I do not have and restrictions that i know about. I do live in a residential area.
I would like to keep the beam as small as possible.

10, 15 and 20 are the minimum freq I would like the beam to handle. Optimally, I would like to have 40 in there too but can handle it if it is not there.

I have looked all over at the different "Small" beams.

I need your help!!

Let me know what you think would be a good choice from your experiences.

Thanks

Will be putting up a 40' Tower in the near future.

Put a post in earlier about a Cubical Quad antenna for this tower and you guys gave me plenty to look at. THANKS

The question this time is:

The Band coverage I'm looking for is 10, 15, 20, 40, 80.

I know the 80 is going to be pushing it.(I can live without that if i have to)

Is there a Cubical Quad or Yagi beam that would cover at least the first 4 bands??

I would love to hear your input and how you think tey perform.

Thanks

41  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Canadian Antenna Mfg. on: March 19, 2008, 03:28:44 PM
I have just received my 4 10' sections of tower.

I would like to put up a multi band Cubical Quad.

I'm not up to making it at this point.

I know I have seen a Canadian Antenna Manufacturer that makes something like I'm looking for.

I cannot remember who it is or the web address.

Can anyone help with locating this company??

Thanks

42  eHam Forums / HomeBrew / Screw Driver Antenna Plans on: December 19, 2007, 05:13:07 AM
I would like to get a set of plans online for a Screw Driver Antenna.
I have searched the internet and I'm not coming up with anything detailied.
There are tons of places to buy them.

Does anyone know of a site that has detailied plans on how to build one?

Thanks

43  eHam Forums / Misc / 5-BTV Elevated mount without radials on: March 26, 2007, 11:40:30 AM
Just upgraded to General. Looking at getting my HF rig up and running.

I'm very confined as far as yard space goes. I'm looking at the 5-BTV Vertical.

I'm looking at mounting it on top of a pole that I will run up the side of my house. Ground mount is not an option (well not entirely out of the question but very difficult)

Is there anyone who has done this successfully without using radials??
If so, how did you do it??

I'm running a IC-735 with an PS-55 Power supply and a AT-150.

I can set up a tripod on my roof and put the radials on there but I would rather not if I don;t have to.

Let me know what you think or other suggestions you have.

Thanks

Bob
