1  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / Yaesu FT1000MP MkV Field - Fitting Inrad IF filter on: March 04, 2005, 05:11:30 PM
I am fitting several new crystal IF filters into my Yaesu FT1000MP MkV Field. So far so good....

Unfortunately, on one of the filters, the label on the top has come off.

Does it matter which way round I slot the filter in? (ie, I can slot the filter in one way or turn it through 180 degrees and it will fit the other way if you see what I mean!)....

2  eHam Forums / Elmers / Type of balun for an aluminium dipole? on: February 17, 2005, 06:13:41 PM
I have a Cushcraft D3 aluminium dipole antenna (20m/15m/10m)....

My intention was to make a simple coax choke balun to use with it (a few turns of coax on say a 6 inch former)... However, in my shack I have a Radioworks 1:1 Current Balun (model: B1-2K Plus) which is just gathering dust at the moment....

Would there be any advantage / dis-advantage to using the Radioworks balun ?
3  eHam Forums / DXing / Orkney Islands IOTA EU-009 on: August 16, 2004, 10:20:20 AM
I am submitting this post on behalf of Orkney Amateur Radio Club.

We are trying to establish which of the Orkney Islands are "most wanted" by island chasers (so that we can plan our future activations around this).

If you have ever had a QSO with someone in the Orkney Islands (IOTA  EU-009) we would be very grateful if would fill out our short survey on the club website www.eu009.com   This will literally take only one minute of your time, and you can remain anonymous if you wish.

Thanks in advance...

5  eHam Forums / Misc / Yaesu FT1000MP MkV Field overheating in PSK31 on: November 02, 2003, 05:27:00 PM
My Yaesu FT1000MP MkV Field (with internal PSU) operates fine in CW and SSB(phone)... But when I switch to PSK31 the internal fan comes on after around 30 seconds. I appreciate that PSK31 is 100% duty cycle, so I drop the power down to 15-20W. Is it normal for the fan to come on so quickly ? Is it safe to continue operating ?
6  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / FT1000MP Mk V AF (Line Out) level on: October 29, 2003, 07:30:58 PM
Is there an easy way (eg, menu or pot tweak) to increase the level of the AF OUT (LINE OUT) jack on the back of a FT1000MP MkV ?

I do NOT want to resort to using the Speaker Jack and AF Gain....

Thanks,
Mark
7  eHam Forums / Digital / Rigblaster Plus jumper settings for FT1000MP MK-V on: October 22, 2003, 07:29:08 PM
I have a Yaesu FT1000MP MK-V Field with Heil Pro-Set headphones (VOX operated - and via AD-1-Y8 cable)

I have recently acquired a Rigblaster Plus. Should I set the "jumpers" to the settings described for the Yaesu FT1000MP MK-V, or will they be different for the Heil headset ?
8  eHam Forums / Digital / Connecting FT1000MP MK-V Field to PC using Rigblas on: October 22, 2003, 07:19:03 PM
What is the most reliable/best way to connect a Yaesu FT1000MP MK-V Field to PC using a Rigblaster Plus ?

What ports (eg, speaker out/line in/headphone out etc) should I connect to what...

9  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / How to connect an FT1000MP MKV to a PC for PSK31 on: October 09, 2003, 07:19:36 PM
Given the multitude of interfaces on the back of the FT1000MP MKV, what is the easiest way of interfacing to a PC for PSK31 use ?

I use the CAT interface for Logger32.... will I need to use a second serial port on the PC, or can I use the CAT interface for PSK31 ?
10  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / World Atlas on CD ROM on: September 25, 2003, 06:19:25 PM
Can anyone recommend a good World Atlas on CD ROM, ideally with the following features:

(1) a good placename search/index so that I can check out contacts' locations as I chat to them....

(2) the ability to put the electronic equivalent of map pins onto the maps so that I can record places/countries I have made contact with...
11  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / CAT interface - polling rate on: September 25, 2003, 06:11:07 PM
Is there any disadvantage (either to the PC or the tranceiver) in setting the "polling" on the CAT interface to a very short period of time ? ie, so that the PC checks the radio more often ?

The setting within my software is currently set to 2000ms.
12  eHam Forums / Misc / How does the FT1000MP AATU memories work ? on: September 25, 2003, 06:04:56 PM
Is there anyone out there who can explain (better than the Yaesu manual!) how the automatic ATU works (operationally not electronically) on the Yaesu FT1000MP.

My query is best explained by example:

The AATU has currently matched the antenna (half-size G5RV)with the following VSWR's:

14.260    1:1.2
14.270    1:1.3
14.280    1:2.2
14.290    1:1.3
14.300    1:2.5

I could understand it if the VSWR increased/decreased steadily as the frequency changed - but not up and down like this.

I assume this is down to the AATU's "memories" - does it store AATU settings for spot frequencies ?

Furthermore, as I am tuning around a specific band the "wait" light comes on (which I would expect) - but I assumed this was re-tuning to the optimum VSWR - this is not so as I can often get a lower VSWR by switching the tuner off then switching it back on again by holding down the tuner button for a second or so (as the manual suggests you do when you use a new antenna).

A brief explanation of the AATU and it's memories would be much appreciated... thanks.
13  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / Logger32 - Communicating with a Yaesu FT840 on: September 16, 2003, 05:49:36 PM
Does anyone know if it is possible to use Logger32 in conjunction with a Yaesu FT840 ?
14  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / Logger32 - cannot get it to print on: September 15, 2003, 06:28:07 PM
I am trying to get Logger32 (version 1 build 441 ie, the latest version) to print my logbook.... It is using the "LogPrint.exe" module.

All I get is the error message "Log File does not exist"

Any ideas ?

I suspect I need to tell "LogPrint" the name of my log file... but how ?
15  eHam Forums / Elmers / Help deciding on HF radio on: July 01, 2003, 09:08:10 PM
A friend of mine would like to buy a new HF transceiver and has shortlisted the following:

Icom IC7400
Kenwood TS570DGE
Kenwood TS870DSP
Kenwood TS2000
Yaesu FT1000 Field

He would like to narrow down the list further; so if anyone has any first-hand experience of the above radios, and can recommend/not recommend any then he would very much appreciate your comments.
