Sounds like you tuned in the MARS frequencys. Which is just above several of the ham bands. This is a group of Amateurs which handle Traffic for Military personal. ie. phone patchs between wifes and service personal, as you heard. Bob

I am running the same antenna on my Chev. Crew cab.
 Using a IC706. Mounted the antenna about 1 ft. back on the bed rail.
Made a home made bracket out of a scrap piece of stainless.
Tunes fine using the 40mtr. load, and a LDG auto tuner.

If i'm not mistaken Novices can use 10 meters. A tech plus can use  the novice portion.A tech plus Had to pass 5wpm. + the general written test. Novices have no privliges on 2 meters which makes no sense at all. 73 wb5pnm
