HELP!!

I walked down to the shack today and all of a sudden my Ft-920 doesn't transmit.  Here's what I know...

Recieve fine

All other non transmitting functions fine

Hitting the mic, MOX switch, VOX, or rear PTT port will NOT put the radio into transmit mode

Run the autotuner and it begins to act normally (runs 50W and moves up/down to find lowest SWR) then the PO meter shows 0 and output drops to 0

Antenna system is 100% fine

Power supply is 100% fine

I have done a soft reset and the hard reset by throwing the backup switch under the inside cover.

Does anyone have any experience with this?  Have any idea what to do?  I hope to get some answers without having to send the radio out for repair.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Don

5  eHam Forums / Elmers / Strong noise levels on: June 12, 2007, 07:49:53 PM
I am experiencing similar noise levels the last few weeks.  I have ruled out most immediate forms of QRM.  I have been away from HF for 4 summers now (work/travel heavy in the summer) and as such can't seem to remember this pattern.  Using a Ft-920 into Cushcraft X7, D4 and some different wires.
6  eHam Forums / Elmers / is your xyl a ham, how does that work? on: April 14, 2006, 08:37:44 PM
My XYL is a ham (KD4YLR).  She was actually licensed before me (by about 6 months).  We met on Ham Radio as teenagers, anyone living around Lake Erie in the mid-90's probably heard us Smiley

7  eHam Forums / Station Building / Framing Done, now want some thoughts. on: January 10, 2006, 07:17:35 PM
Thank you everyone for all the thoughts, opinons and advice.

I just finished the lighting, I went with recessed lighting that take incandecent bulbs to keep the noise down.  I've elected to hang drywall on the ceiling.  As far as the flooring, I still have not finalized my decision.  I will talk with a flooring guy soon, but am still interested in what everyone here thinks.  Jim, how do you affix the pad/carpet directly to the concrete?  I went with one of the 3x5 plastic access boxes as someone suggested

That brings up another good question.  Does anyone have a clean/profesional way of doing feedline through the drywall?  I always just used 2-3" PVC and terminated it in the shack with a round plate cover like you would use for a 220 plug.  Thanks for the opinon's so far... keep them coming!
9  eHam Forums / Station Building / Framing Done, now want some thoughts. on: December 29, 2005, 07:01:16 PM
I would like everyone's thoughts as to the "must haves" of a completely new ham shack.  Here's the status of where I am at and what I am dealing with.

*  My shack is in the basement of a older home (40's).
*  The shack is 12x11.
*  I have only completed the framing thus far.
*  The basement has concrete block walls on two of the walls of the shack.  I have studded these walls and plan on installing insulation.
*  Floor is concrete also.  I plan on installing a sub-floor and then carpet.  Any advice on the sub-floor?  *  The only concern with any ideas is that the ceiling is only 6' 8".
*  I will run dedicated 120 and 220 lines to the shack from the box.
*  I will run cat5, phone and video lines
*  I will run some type of "conduit" for feedlines, rotor etc
*  Any thoughts on lighting?

Am I missing something?  Any "I wish I would have done that or could do that!"  This obviously my prime time to do it before I start laying subfloor and drywall.

Thanks for everyone's opinon.

10  eHam Forums / Digital / MFJ 1270/1274 Info Needed Please on: August 26, 2004, 01:36:37 AM
I am looking for a copy of a schematic for the 1270/1274
or more importantly the value of resistor R140.

Here's the scoop:

This is an old TNC my wife used to use.  She used it with
the old classic the HTX-202... According to the 1274 manual some radio's like the 202 require you to add jumper JMPL (which I removed) and reduce the resistor value on R140 (which was done)to key the PTT.  I am  trying to use this TNC with a Yaesu FT-8100 via the data port on the back and the PTT will not trip (no it's not a wiring problem)... Any other ideas??? I am assuming it must be this resistor value.  Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
11  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Tower Identification and Installation Suggestions on: June 15, 2004, 01:11:55 AM
Thanks for the info!!  The son of the ham I go this tower from said it was down and redone about 7-8 years ago.  I may redo it based on your recommendations.  Towers are very very expensive to get shipped up here (I live in KL7 land) and used ones rarely show up.  I am planning on bracking it at about 18 feet or so and I am not going to raise it all the way up.  I will guy it based on what I saw when I took it down and your info.

One thing I need to do is replace the cableing that raises and lowers the tower.... I don't seem to understand how it goes together... any thoughts or info you could send me?

I have a hole dug for the concrete base... and the base plate that it was sitting on was recovered.... any info on the concrete base.

Thanks a lot for all your help,

Don

I have been given a tower recently and I am just about
to disassemble it and install it at my QTH.  The tower is labelled as a Tri-Ex T-471 and has a serial number however I did not write it down.  I have found bsoultely no information on the web about this tower.  It is currently in need of some minor repair (new cabling to raise lower, some rust removal etc) as it has been sitting unused and without maintenance for several years.

It is a crank-up tower but yet appears to have been guyed??  Strange. Please look at the following pics and
let me know what you think???  Installation Suggestions??  Where I can get some specs etc??

13  eHam Forums / Elmers / Kenwood TMV-7A Mod on: April 28, 2002, 09:41:46 AM
From my understanding it will knock out the DTSS which will then knock out the remote control capabilities.
Hope that helps a bit.
14  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / Help with Kenwood TS-820S on: March 27, 2001, 08:40:45 PM
I just purchased a Kenwood TS-820S for a friend.  I am not too familiar with the rig but
it does come with the owners manual.  Everything seems to work fine on recieve.  However
when I turn on the heater about 10 seconds later the fuse blows.

Any ideas?  I have yet to check if the rig transmitts as the manual indicated to have the
heater on first.

15  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Rohn Telescoping Masts on: September 02, 2000, 08:40:54 PM
I am looking at purchasing a Rohn telescoping mast.  I would love to chat with someone as to their thoughts
on the ease  (or not) of putting them up.  Antenna support capabilities and guying etc.....

Thanks,

Don
