1  eHam Forums / Hamfests / RE: CARVED IN STONE??? on: February 19, 2013, 09:21:18 AM
"If you don't want to go, just say so. Whining and complaining means you just want attention, not a solution."

I wonder how many folks who get-up every morning at 6:00am for work Mon-Fri would attend a hamfest on a Saturday morning at 2:00am, especially if they had a three hour drive?
2  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / RE: Been away from Ham for a while. Need recommendation for new HT on: February 18, 2013, 05:34:00 PM
If you're going hiking or doing something where a radio may be damaged, why not look at one of them cheap Chinese HT's that are all over the internet for $50.00, that way you're not out much if it breaks or takes a dive. Also, read their reviews here on eHam too.

I personally hate how LIFE evolves around the people who work Mon-Fri / 9-5.
There are two other shifts folks! Why not a noon til 6:00pm hamfest?

4  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Soldering radial lugs on: December 11, 2012, 04:07:27 PM
I didn't solder mine...I simply crimped them. I have sixteen 32' radials buried below my Hustler 6-BTV and it works quite well here in Northern New York.

I second the CCLEANER recommendation. Snoop around  www.filehippo.com  too.

Get a "QSO King" by Maple Leaf Studios.
It's a great end-fed! Of course an Ameritron
AL-811 doesn't hurt either.

9  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / RE: Enhancing audio on: July 17, 2012, 04:36:33 PM
I use the same thing on VHF/UHF that I do on HF SSB...
A Heil Gold Line mic going into a W2IHY 8-band EQ.
It sounds excellent on 2-meters and I get many compliments.

11  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: WHY? on: March 19, 2012, 09:37:49 AM
Split or no split, the ironic thing is that the next person to transmit is usually the tuner-upper!
12  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: YL wonders if she needs an amp. Seriously. on: January 28, 2012, 09:04:11 PM
Amplifiers are your friends.
13  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: AL 80A How to tune an amp. on: January 28, 2012, 08:40:52 PM

After I reinstalled XP, I had a couple of things that didn't work. Running this fixed my issues:

15  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: Autotuner that can handle 1000w and is reliable on: July 21, 2011, 10:49:05 AM
I run an Ameritron AL-80B at about 800 watts into a LDG AT-1000Pro Autotuner all day long with no issues whatsoever. My antenna is a ground-mounted Hustler 6BTV.

I also run an Ameritron AL-811 into a LDG AT-600Pro at about 500 watts with no issues either.
