1  eHam Forums / Elmers / TS2000 vs 1000 Mark V on: October 13, 2004, 11:31:33 AM
The preselector doesn't work over 20 meters so it can't help on 15 and 17 where I got the problem.

I also tried to use the attenuator but it seems it can't give so much, I think the point is the characteristic of the antenna that's a dipole, it doesn't tune on 18 MHz and on 21 MHz, besides Vatican Radio has got one directional antenna enough close, linked to a 500 KW transmitter (sounds like WB2WIK condition)

I didn't know about tuning on reception, I'm gonnna check it.

2  eHam Forums / Elmers / TS2000 vs 1000 Mark V on: October 13, 2004, 02:37:14 AM
Hi all, I've recently bought a Yaesu FT1000mp Mark V and after owning a Kenwood TS2000.
I live in north of Rome, Italy that's about 1,5 miles far from Vatica Radio: for the HF band I use a Windom inverted-V dipole 10 to 40 meters and it works fine (enough for my needs) but what I've checked is that on 15 and 17 meters sometimes, when Vatican Radio is transmitting in some directions (or with more power) I got strong intermodulation on my FT1000 that I could fix with the tuner on my TS 2000.
It seems that the automatic tuner doesn't work in reception with the FT 1000 while it's not the same with the Kenwood.
It's a sin that this tuner doesn't make the same job the 2000's does.

Fabrizio

You should not have problems with the info suggested to you in the previous posts.

Here in Rome you can find a lot of 2 meters repeaters and 70 cm as well, but actually not a lot of traffic in the simplex mode (just trying in the evening)

Step here it's 12.5 KHz (I'm not sure how is in US)

If you need further info just write to me (f.gaucci@libero.it)

4  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / Kenwood TS-2000 shifting frequency on: January 04, 2004, 12:45:43 PM
Hi all, I bought a TS2000 about two years ago and I noticed about a couple of problem.

First it's the led of the main band that seems not working properly it goes on and off but the most of the time when I got signal it remain off. When I push the Mic or LSB/USB button it goes on and suddenly off.

The other problem is more "serious"; when I operate two bands I noticed that I got shifting frequency in the sub band when I press any button or simply turning on the radio.
I even got shifting frequency on the main band when I got on the sub band.
For example if I'm receiving on main band on 15 mt and I got 145.200 FM on the sub band, pressing a button I got 12.5 Khz shifting on sub band and I see 145.212.5. I even got this problem with the memories!

This behavior is not always but very often, any of you has this kind of problem with the TS-2000 ?

I suppose that reparing such kind of problems is not so easy (and cheap as well).

Fabrizio

Thanx for the reply.
I think that I'll place the Windom as far apart as possible.
My question has born because the installer wanted to put my antenna near TV antenna (that's centralized) and I didn't like that position.
But to put it away from tv antenna I've to realize inverted V solution.

Hi all, I've to install a 40-10 metres Windom dipole and I wonder it there's some problem (like TVI) if I install it below the television antenna (I will use two poles and the windom should be horizontal not inverted V).
