I think ARRL "Now you talking" is a great book and should work ok at that level.

Good luck !

Good one Pete.

To go into the "propagation" part a little more using Pete's explanation if I may:

"The paired voltage (electric) and magnetic fields make up an electromagnetic field;

At one part (1/2) of the cycle (power applied to the conductor(antenna)), this field produced is say a POSITIVLY charged one, then in the other 1/2 of the cycle "switches" to a NEGETIVE field. As this "cycle" of + and - occurs, each one "PUSHES" the other out away from the antenna and then each other just like one actual magnet will push another away from itself. So the “magnetic” part of the field is the “horsepower” that makes the RF wave the “moving” object it is..

73 Excellent questions!

Radio Shack has SO-239 to BNC male adaptors or a BNC you can attach to your coax if you want to go that way.

23  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / Cutting 102" Steel CB whip to 6M's? on: May 21, 2004, 12:26:01 AM
Also, you may what to cut the base end of the antenna off so you still have a "corona ball" (to dissipate static)on the end of your whip.

Yes the sring would count in electrical length and if the "ball" is insulated from ground, it will be part of the antenna as well. I assume this (ball) being where the antenna screws into, is part of the element then, if it's insulated from ground(and the shield of your coax).
Good luck that will made a GREAT antenna !

Call Yaesu themselves, I have ordered display lamps from them (although that has nothing to do with a mike) and they have been nice to deal with.

Try : 714-827-7600

Good luck !

29  eHam Forums / Licensing / Replacement for Advanced License on: May 15, 2004, 09:52:52 AM
Dear John,
(Or should I say Dear Marshal Dillon)

Extra class holds "quite a bit" of respect as well but comments like that don't cause a person to hold much respect for folks that think we "new folks" (I've been licensed since 1995) aren't worthy to be in your little club. Sorry to get testy but I despise those type of comments and DO take them personally.

I am quite sure that you are "grandfathered" in that class and the frequency privileges as well.

Although there is no longer an Advanced class in the system, you are still and will remain that, unless you go to Extra obviously.

I hope I have that correct.
