eHam Forums / Company Reviews / Georgia Copper - Another Perfect Transaction

I've had about a dozen transactions with Georgia Copper. Each one went better than expected. I recently purchased one of the 'Clearance' items. 3" wide by .032" (thickest the sell) copper strap. It came packed as if it was the Magna Carta itself! Gary - who I believe handles Amateur sales as I think he's a ham himself - includes his card with each sale. I'm going out on a limb here, but I think Gary has worked with the Georgia Copper management to provide a product line for hams. The items they sell work perfectly in a ham station grounding scheme. This latest purchase will be an upgrade to my tower ground system. Check them out if you're installing a ground system. Affordable and service like you wish for!

Dave, AA6YQ, notwithstanding, and I will freely admit his software does what you seek, there is also HRD. Currently free ( up to, but not including version6.X)
It includes a suite of software to provide rig control, logging, digital modes, rotor control, DX Spider support, propagation reports, LoTW and eQSL upload and downloads, contest logging, award tracking, and many other features.
To be honest, I prefer the User Interface of HRD as it's more graphic than Dx Lab, but the choice is your's.

Why power down??? What is wrong with Standby or Hibernate which should remember settings? I only do cold/full boots when upgrades require it.
There is certain Ham hardware that will not work properly if the system is left to Hibernate or Standby. It has to do with the way certain version of the OS deals with drivers and hibernation. microHAM will tell you do not use hibernation or standby with their uRouter software.

Most remotes are infrared and placing them under a baking pan should have little effect.
If you put a pillow on the remotes and it still happens, it's not the remotes.
Now think about this. If it was remote being effected, a metal shield would block TVI on it, not a pillow. Also, a remote is not even powered up until you press a button on it. Realistically, running 100 watts 15 feet from a TV is really asking for trouble. RF field is going to be real strong and will overwhelm some devices. I really feel that low power and some filtering is only viable option here. Now think about this. If you put a pillow on it, the Infrared beams can't reach the TV!

The appliances themselves are being affected. Choke the power and signal inputs. Check the outlets for proper grounding. If ungrounded because the facility is older, check to see if there is a third wire and follow those basic RFI suggestion others have made. Good luck.

There is also some merit to the thought your rotor must have some down force load to seat it's own bearing properly to prevent wear, chatter and failure. While I have a 'rocket top' section AND a thrust bearing, I did load the rotor before I tightened the bolts on the thrust bearing. My rotor is a T2X.
Get a hold of the book "Up the Tower" by Steve Morris - KL7XC and read up. It will be the best money you spend in your entire tower budget.

I use a Brady iDPAL labeller for all my cables. Not just the COAX, but the power and other interconnect cables get labelled as well. One line for the source, the 2nd for the destination. It does 2, 3 or 4 lines (depending on your label tape width and Font). But, it's not cheap.

Actually, there is nothing illegal about MODIFYING a radio to transmit out of the assigned bands based upon the radio's certifications. If it were, no one could modify a Public Service repeater for 2 meter operations (for example). It is illegal to TRANSMIT on those frequencies in almost all circumstances where your license or privilege does not allow, however. There are some VERY NARROW circumstances that would allow you to transmit where ever you needed. Saving one's (yourself or some one else) life or limb where no other means of communication exist (read: Dire Emergency) is about the only one I can think of.

To answer your question about how others do it, most likely they don't use HRD. I know from a demonstration we had in a ham club meeting, the TenTec native rig software does provide the audio portions.
Again, you can use HRD, but it requires a means of taking the audio and converting it to an IP stream. Actually two streams, one for transmit audio, and naturally the other for receive audio. Skype is one of the methods employed to do that. You also have to provide some method of limiting connectivity to one user at a time. And to time out that user after 'X' minutes of inactivity.
