As Dan pointed out, the functionality is built into newer versions of Windows. If you still prefer a stand alone zip file manager you can download 7-Zip. It is an open source project. No registration and no cost. http://www.7-zip.org/Bob, K0BT

Mel,
You can download a freeware utility called CCleaner to get rid of all the trash, cookies, and temp files in case you still want to scrub that system. It is a handy tool to keep in your software toolkit.

eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: FLEX-5000A Question

Jeff and Stan,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Flex wants quite a chunk of change for the ATU and second receiver and it sounds as though I should reconsider both items. I will search the forums to learn more about the ATU problems. I may be better off with an external ATU like one of the LDG boxes if I want an automated one.

eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / FLEX-5000A Question

I am about to buy a FLEX-5000A. My usual luck is to have a new version of whatever I purchase come to market about two months later. Can any of you experienced users offer any insight as to whether the 5000A has a replacement in the pipeline - or as to what add-ons should be on my "must have" list? Would I be better off looking for a used one or buying new due to improvements?
Thanks, Bob

I have the service monitor and purchased it knowing that the scope was broken. Someone apparently worked on the power supply board and it is missing a transistor.

eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / TS-2000 Scan at Power-On

BTW: In my previous post I presumed you already tried pressing the [CLR] and/or [SCAN] buttons. If not, try that first.
It does seem odd, but the TS-2000 will continue to scan following a power cycle unless you explicitly tell it to stop.

Try a full reset.
Press the [A=B] button and hold it while pressing the power button to turn the radio on. You will see a confirmation message. Press [A=B] again. You will see "HELLO" on the display.
Note: This will set everything to the default state. It will clear the memories and all preset data.
If you want to do a partial reset, follow the same sequence but use the [A/B] button instead.

Grady,
Generalization alert: Almost all of these meters use a pair of 1N34a type diodes as the detectors (my CN-410m does). Open it up and check them. The meter probably also uses an op-amp for the peak hold feature. It might be something common like an LM324. If all else fails, you may want to try the "shotgun" approach and just replace the active components. I may get flamed for suggesting it, but sometimes the simple solution gets you a working piece of equipment.
