eHam Forums / Elmers / Vertical - Opinions

Some of you might have read my Long Wire thread and I was just wondering on opinions for verticals.
I do not have much in the way of space so I am looking for something very space effecient. Could I run the vertical up along the wall? Would that cause any problems?
Opinions would be greatly appreciated as I try and work out this antenna situation.
Thanks, Ryan (VE3ROO)

eHam Forums / Elmers / Long Wire - Opinions
|
on: March 30, 2002, 11:34:36 PM
|
|
I live in a rental town house with a flat roof. I don't have much in the way of space so I am very limited in what I can do here.
My plan as it stands is to put a long wire on the roof between 100 and 150 feet long. I will raise the wire off the roof using a series of bricks.
Any thoughts on this? Any ideas as to what else I could do here? I have a 28x19x28 three sided back yard with 7 feet tall fencing to work with as well.
Any input would be very much appreciated.

eHam Forums / Youth / SPEAK UP YOUNG HAMS!

You know what guys? There is horror stories in all hobbies right across the board. I am a young ham myself and I have been welcomed into the community. There was times where I was given a lecture by some OF (old fart) who thought that his way was the only way to operate. You know something? I don't remember his call, know why? Cause I could care less about the bad contacts I make. But the good contacts I make far outweigh anything close to what the bad ones do.
So yes, young hams speak up.... We are the future and we need to get fellow young blood into hobby.

Evening everyone,
Just installing a Dual Band antenna (Anli is the brand) and the PL259 connecter will not connect to the antenna... any ideas why? I was under the impression that everything is pretty standard as far as coax connectors go (at least for antennas)
Any help would be greatly appreciated, VE3ROO

Can you send a QSL direct as a post card? I mean by just putting the stamp and address on the back of the card?
Thanks, VE3ROO

eHam Forums / Elmers / QSL Cards To Locals
|
on: August 29, 2001, 01:29:22 PM

|
Being a Basic ticket holder most of my contact is going to be with people not far away from my location. Should I send QSL cards to stations I talk to? I print my own cards so it is not to big a deal. Will I be, umm, laughed at for sending a card to someone who lives 20 minutes away from me?
Thanks guys, 73, Ryan, VE3ROO

eHam Forums / Elmers / First Radio.. HT or Mobile?
|
on: August 26, 2001, 11:22:38 PM
|
Hello, I have had my ticket now for 6 months but have not been able to get on the air. So the time has come for me to buy a radio. I have but one question left that I cannot seem to answer for myself.. maybe you all can help Handy Talkie or Mobile Unit.. that is the question. I see the merit in having both, and I will, when I have the cash, be obtaining both. So ... I can have one or the other. What should it be? Any suggestions? Is 5w enough? Do I spend the extra couple of dollars and get the mobile? Will I be able to communicate via repeaters and simplex with just an HT? Any opinions on this would be great.. thank you much, VE3ROO
