2326  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Running amp through a tuner on: April 06, 2007, 10:12:09 AM
Just to add a bit to the previous post:  I had worked 125 countries with about 65 watts back in the early 1960s before I had ever seen one of those newfangled "SWR bridges". My second-hand 3-element triband yagi showed anywhere from 3:1 to 5:1 SWR, but my DX-100B was able to load its full output to the antenna and a mercifully-short length of RG-8.

We've made some great advancements in technology, but a pi-net output circuit never hurts!

KX8N said: "It seems that during those fifteen tries, and ending with a score of 78, she has indeed learned some information about amateur radio."

Rote memorization is not the same as "learning", especially when the material "learned" is essentially in an unknown, foreign language.  If she were able to discuss the questions IN CONTEXT and could demonstrate that she did indeed know the material, I'd agree that she had learned.  It doesn't sound like she's quite to that point yet.
2328  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Found this in my dads old HAM gear, on: March 30, 2007, 01:24:30 PM
You might check out the folks who seem to have built that amplifier:  http://www.hme.com/eHme/

Google is your friend ;>)

I also agree.  I use the Heil footswitch with my IC-738 and AL-1200.  Nary a hiccup in a decade.

Why not ask those who are "requiring" you to buy the stuff?

No, "Varmint".  Like an animal classed as a pest and unprotected by law.

"Pride 150" LINEAR amp?  Yeah, right.

CRY -

Do they still refer to the number in monetary terms?  Like yours would be "Five hundred nineteen dollars and eighty-four cents"?  I used to hear 10-10 numbers exchanged in that format and thought it was a little odd, but...

Probably like the old "Ten-Ten" club which got started about 22 years ago at the bottom of a sunspot cycle to encourage folks to operate on 28 MHz.
2337  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / KLM PA 30/140 Info on: February 15, 2007, 09:53:50 AM
Not familiar with that one at all, but since Google is my friend, I Googled it.  Just about everything that came up has to do with these on eBay auctions, and they all say that it's a 2 meter amplifier.  I'd therefore guess "yes".

Wade - one of the old reliable methods of keeping "static cling" off panel meters is to take a tiny drop of clear dishwashing liquid and coating the exterior of the meter face with it, down to the panel it's mounted to.  This drains off any static charges and when it dries it's invisible.

"IAMAHAM" says:  "All I know is that after being licensed for 8 years I will soon have HF privileges."

So?  When I was first licensed as a Novice, I had HF privileges AND phone privileges on 2M.  Yes, the HF allocation for Novices was for CW only - but so what?  We Novices improved our code speed, upgraded to Technician/Conditional/General and kept going.

You've been licensed for eight whole years and are just now getting HF privileges?  How pathetic.
