1  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / Diamond Antenna Advice on: March 27, 2009, 08:50:08 AM
I just bought a Yaesu VX-150 an the Diamond 519 antenna to go with it. After several different tests we found that the stock rubber duck antenna that came with the 150 worked better for tx than the 519.

3  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Choke for Imax 2000? on: March 01, 2009, 04:30:11 PM
It was about an inch above the guy that was hollering about it a few posts back. He just didn't bother to look the post over real good.

I changed it to KD3RDB because it's easier to roll off the tongue for me than KD0GGH. But it was still KD0GGH when the guy was accusing me of not being an amateur.

None of this would have got started if they had just spent 10 seconds reading the whole post instead of jumping the gun as soon as they see the letters CB.

It's pretty much self explanatory that I am using 2 different radios. I live in the Mo. Ozarks an cb's are how a lot of us keep in touch an ck on each other around here. In these parts, cb's are as valuable to us as guns are.

Just incase the guy from QRZ is over here, this is for him...73'sssss Shocked)

Will it hurt if a wire antenna has some leaves touching it in a tree where it is hooked? It has insulated wire, not bare.

I tried the anc4 unit on my noise, and the only way I got it to get rid of the noise was costing me 1 s unit on rx. So I gave it back to the fella that loaned it to me. Glad I didn't waste $180 for one though. My next experiment will be the Gap inline module an see what it'll do for me. By the way, I live on the Lake of the Ozarks where ameren is also. I'm up at Warsaw at Truman Dam an we are on KCP&L here.

8  eHam Forums / Elmers / using a I-Max 2000 antenna on 10-20m bands on: February 10, 2009, 03:18:47 PM
Really smart people called engineers say that a bumblebee can't fly...but it does.

The Imax has to many good reviews on here to say its not good.

I have mine on an antenna switch, so I can use it on the cb and 10-17 meters on my Yaesu FT-890at

9  eHam Forums / Elmers / Power line noise on: February 10, 2009, 11:12:59 AM
We found it. It was a uncoated/bare splice in the line going to another fellas house about 1 block away, and it was rubbing against the top branchs of a tree. Light Co. is gonna change the splice to a different type an trim the tree...

Thanx,

I accept your apology, and I was probably a little quick on the trigger also.
I enjoy all of my radios, and was just wanting to kill 2 birds with 1 stone by using the Imax for both thru an antenna switch.

I have only had my tech for about 3-4 weeks, an just passed the general a coupla nights ago. I have already been downridden by some of the local hams because I still own a cb radio now that I am a licensed amateur.

Well it seems like somebody already thinks I'm doing something illegal.

Don't worry, I'll never ask a dang thing on here again. Just because I can use the antenna for both radios doesn't mean I am doing something wrong....

I should have known better than to mention CB on a better than thou forum.

14  eHam Forums / Elmers / Power line noise on: February 04, 2009, 09:08:52 AM
I have pretty bad powerline noise coming in on my antenna since I live within 100 ft of a 7200 volt highline. What do they have out there that will kill or at least tone down this noise in the radio?

mfj784B ?
gap speaker?
west mountain clr spkr?

I'm open for almost any idea within reason. Power Co. is not much help, so I thought I would try something at the radio to start with...
Borrowed a timewave/jps ANC-4, an that was a waste of time...

Getting ready to put up an Imax 2000 with the ground plane kit this weekend an was wondering about the coax choke on it I have read about here an there.
Can somebody here tell me if its a needed item or a waste of time?
If it is helpful, could you tell me how big, how many turns and what size it needs to be? Also, where does it need to be positioned at with the downward sloping radial kit that is used on the Imax 2000?

I'm gonna use this antenna for my CB, an for the 10 meter band on my Yaesu FT-890at.

Thanx ahead of time Guys
Ron B.
