Be sure and keep the I/Q output ground isolated from the PS and RF input grounds.

AAAAARRRRRGH!!!!  Now HRD wont connect to the Kenwood!!!!  Angry
Check your port speed in HRD. It is bad about changing the speed to 57600 any time you change com ports. It needs to be 4800.

I just reread your post about having HRD set to Com6.  Change it to Com3 then set pdsdr to talk to HRD via DDE.

The rig is physically plugged into COM3 on the PC.  In psdr/if, on the "if setup" page, there is a tab called "rig control"  there is where I have psdr setup to run the rig. (COM3)   Then, in the general setup, there is a tab for CAT.  There is where I have hrd controlling psdr.  (COM7)  In hrd the CAT is set to COM6.  As I said, this works perfectly.  There's no way you can have psdr and hrd both controlling the rig directly.  COM ports won't allow it.  That's why Scott modified it that way.

When I was editing my post I inadvertently erased a major point I was trying to make. Leave HRD set as you have it. On PDSDR's setup menu go to Setup IF and set Rig Connection -->Rig Type to "Ham Radio Deluxe". This will set HRD and PDSDR to talk to each other via DDE instead of having to use a virtual com port software. The only com port that will be used is Com3. It works 100% here.

I have the following setup.

Kenwood TS-850 on COM3
PowerSDR / IF controls the rig trough COM3 and receives CATY commands on COM7
HRD controls PowerSDR / IF on COM6

I have VSPE emulating the 6<>& pair.

I'm having a little trouble wrapping my head around the setup. Using Powersdr if and HRD  only require 1 com port period. No mapping, sharing etc. Set up HRD to Com 3 and PowerSDr if to HRD control in the "Setup if" drop down menu in Powersdr/IF.  I have run it that way successfully when I wanted to use HRD for something while running powersdr if. I have never successfully used any com port sharing, mapping etc. software.

Why are you using HRD to control the 850?

8  eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: Question about softrock and emu-0202 on: January 23, 2012, 02:33:10 PM
Yeah, I was just wondering if PowerSDR would follow my frequency without CAT a cat connection.  Just want to play around while I wait for my cable.

It needs the cat connection to know where you are. I am running the exact same setup here. 850/softrock 8.815/emu-0202. It works great for me. The only issue is I'm going to have to build a box to ground the audio lines during transmit. You get a little talkback through the if connections. Also you do not have to use Ham radio deluxe with powersdr/if. It has Kenwood cat control built in. It was originally built to work with the ts-940. If you have any questions give me a shout and I'll try to help. My email is good in qrz.

10  eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: SDR rig Mods on: October 10, 2011, 01:25:30 PM
"To make effective use of a rig with panadaptor, the panadaptor software must also be aware of the BFO offsets used for the various modes so that a signal can be displayed on the panadaptor at the same frequency that the rig is tuned to.  And, that means that any logging or rig control software you'd want to use would have to include support for your specific rigs - a non-trivial effort and not likely to happen with free software.  "

PowerSDR-IF is doing that with their mode specific if offset parameter. It supports rig control on Kenwood, Yaesu & TenTec natively and if you have another brand you can use Ham Radio Deluxe linked to PowerSDR IF to do the same.

They are sealed and cannot be cleaned. It's the same relay they have used since the 440. They are available from East coast parts.

12  eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: Which radios have I.F. outputs on the back of the radio on: August 05, 2011, 10:25:20 AM
All of this is good info but keep in mind that only select few have the if out prior to the roofing filter. If the if out passes though the filter then your viewable spectrum will be the passband of that filter. I know the kenwood 850 has an output that is pre filter. I am using one now and can see 190kc with a ld1a sdr tuned to 8.83mhz. I am not sure of the others.

13  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / Changing configuration on Hamlib on: August 05, 2011, 10:09:42 AM
Is there a way to make configuration changes to hamlib permanent?
I am using a TS-850's if out to drive a sdr tuned to the if for a panadapter. It works great with PSDR IF. I would like to use HDSDR since it is less of a CPU load. HDSDR can use a EXTIO_DLL to interface with Hamlib. I can make hamlibs rigctl talk to my 850 with the command line "rigctl -m 209 -r com5 -s 4800 -C stopbits=1 -C serial_handshake=None". If I leave out the stop bits or handshake info it will not talk to rigctl. My problem is that there is no way to pass a command line to hamlib with it's implementation with HDSDR. You can only pass the -m and -r parameter and nothing else that is useful. Since the default stopbits is 2 and the handshake is hardware it will not talk to the rig.  So back to my original question. Is there a way to make configuration changes to hamlib permanent short of editing TS850.c  and compiling? I wouldn't know where to start with cgwin and gcc.

14  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / RE: mobile AF preamp for HF on: July 02, 2011, 08:15:01 AM
Any one know of a Audio preamp that I could use between my ts480 and mobile speaker that would just give me additional clean amplified sound ?  Thanks John kb2huk

I usually don't recommend "Cellular Phones R Us" ie Radio Shack for anything anymore but they do still have a very few good products and their mobile amplified speaker is one of them. I had the same problem with a Yaesu FT-857D in my pickup. I installed their amplified speaker and it works FB. It even cuts itself off if it doesn't have any input for a half minute or so.  I picked up mine used and it is an older version but this is the current incarnation available there.

What is the difference between a kenwood yk455c-1 and
a yg455c-1 ? They are both plug in and  designed 455 kc.
