1  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: problem with RF on: March 22, 2013, 04:44:41 PM
Problem solved.  Thank you all for your input.  Moving the line isolator to the antenna feed point fixed my issue. I had seen others post in the forums about placing their line isolators in different places, and thought I'd give it a try.  In the back of my mind I really thought that the antenna feed point was the correct place for it.  Thanks everyone.  73

I use a home brew double bazooka in my attic.  Works great on all the bands.  I tunes it with a Palstar at2k.  I didn't have to worry about an antenna ground or radials!  I've had contacts thousands of miles.

Hello, And thanks for looking at this post.
I have a home brew Double Bazooka Dipole antenna in my attic.  I use a Kenwood TS200 with a Palstar AT2k tuner.  I do not use an amp, and mostly work the digital modes (psk31).  Lately, whenever I try and tune in 40 meters, all of my cordless phones in the house start ringing........  This only seems to happen when I'm on 40 meters.  I have installed a line isolator, and have tried it in different locations, with no help.  I've tried it just after the tuner, and I've tried it just after the radio (between the radio and tuner).  Both methods offered absolutely no help.  I even have problems sometimes with my Monitor just shutting itself off.  It has one of those touch buttons (like touch screen on your smart phone) to turn it on and off.  That seems to happen when I'm on 20 meters.  I did seem to help solve that issue when I located the isolator between the radio and tuner.  Thank you to anyone who can help me solve these issues.  73
4  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Tree antenna?? on: February 02, 2013, 11:25:42 AM
I have a nice tree in my front yard.  it's approx 40 feet tall.  I'd like to hide a vertical all band antenna in it.  I'd at least like to be able to use the 40 thru 6 meters.  It must be able to be mounted in the tree and not need an extensive ground system.  Our HOA restricts outdoor antennas, so the idea is to hide it well enough that no one will see it.  That said:  Anyone have an antenna they would recommend for this?  I will be using a tuner that will most likely be in the shack.  Ideally, i'd put it near the base of the antenna, but....Thats is going to e very difficult in this situation.  I'd also like to be able to hook all of this up to an amp eventually.  Thanks for your recommendations and ideas!

Yes, I agree with you.  In fact, Rf exposure was my biggest concern.  It is mostly why I decided to ask the question in here.  I have decided that i will not use an amp unless I can find a way to make an outside antenna work with my situation.  Thank you very much for your help.

would that outside antenna include one that was hidden under the eaves?  Or, would one of those rigs that can be lowered during daylight hours be better?
8  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: General AMP question: Which one should I get? on: January 26, 2013, 09:56:35 AM
Yes, I understand that some experimentation would be necessary.  Thank you for that.  i also understand that running an amp with an indoor antenna is, for the most part, a bad idea.  I could possibly end up being ok with some more power on at least one of the bands?  For example, i have alsways had an issue on 40 meters with my indoor antenna.  i have to turn the power down on 40 meters or it interferes with some of our electronics.  Everyone in here is correct.  And, i appreciate all of the advice.  I have considered building a long wire antenna and installing it under my eaves.  So, no one would see it.  but, that isnt much better than having the attic antenna.  looks like I'm just screed.  lol
9  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / General AMP question: Which one should I get? on: January 26, 2013, 08:03:38 AM
Hi everyone, and thank you for taking the time to look at this.
I am going to buy an amp, but....I have a few questons that I need answers for before I dive into this.
I know how much damage an amp can cause if not used properly, etc.
First of all, I live in an antenna restricted community.  Why, you ask?  To make my wife happy.
So, I got creative and built myslef a nice double bazooka di pole antenna and placed it in my attic.  I'm extremely pleased with it's performance and have two "WAS" awards from EQSL.
However, my attic wont allow me to get the antenna up as high as I would like.  And, it's right over our heads.  So, the thought of how much power can I actually use enters my mind.
That said, I'd like to know if anyone can answer that question for me?  Since my antenna is only 15 feet off the ground and is in my attic......How much power could I use before I flooded my home with RF?  How much power could I use before it became a bad thing?  I currently use a very nice Kenwoood TS-2000 at it's full 100 watt capacity.  It's all been in use for about 5 years now.  I'm using a Palstar AT-2K tuner, which I love by the way!  O.K.....So, am I limited to my 100 watt Kenwood capacity? Or, Can I safely go up to 200?  300?  Or more?  If you believe I could indeed safely increase my power, which amp would you suggest?  By the way, I should have mentioned that everything I have seen and read about my double bazooka suggests that it will easily handle the lagal limit.  Thank you!!

10  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: PALSTAR - Worst Service on Earth on: April 22, 2010, 06:34:50 PM
Worst service on earth?  Really...was that fair?  I think not.  I think it is greatly exaggerated.  The bottom line is that Palstar would have been happy to fix it and return it.  All he had to do was send it back.  While I agree that it shouldn't be the new owners job to fix something new.... I also agree that it was definately better than shipping it there and back, and having to wait for it.  My experience with Palstar has been nearly excellent.  I say nearly...because Paul does have a very high opinion of his company. He doesn't think that he has any competition.  And, while I agree that his products are usually very high quality, I also think that it is possible to find comparable products.  So, my only complaint about Palstar is simply his attitude.  But, everything that I have purchased from them has been awesome!  And, they have treated me very well.  I rate them 4 stars out of 5.  Now, having said all of that....Can any of you name an absolute perfect company out there that has never upset anyone?  I doubt it!

Hello all,  Just to put in my 2 cents worth here...I have been using EQSL for nearly 3 years now.  I am very pleased with their services and have had no complaints at all.  If anything, they have saved me a bunch of money in postage!    I would tend to agree with the gentleman that suggested that the EQSL staff mnember who was so rude to you is likely  volunteer unpaid staff member.  I would also agree with his advice to contact the EQSL manager, and let him know what happened.  Also.... There is no perfect website, and although I am not defending them....I'd give them another chance, if I were you.  Of course, it's entirely up to you.  If I were you, I'd be upset too.  I'd also wonder....how all those fake QSL cards were being filed under your Call.  That would bother me more than the rude staff.  I'd be wondering who is  using your call sign.

13  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: I NEED A KENWOOD TS-2000 EXPERT! HELP! on: February 13, 2010, 12:29:39 PM
Thanks 2 everyone for your help!  Yes....I have made absolutely sure that I am using the right antennas/switches/etc.   And, all of the software settings/menus have been checked and triple checked.  Here is what I think happened, I just realized it a few mins ago.  I had 2 hf radios hooked up at the same time on my desk, and had one set to xmit and 1 set to receive.  Apparently, that was a mistake!  They were too close together?  I know this now, because I just tried to use the other radio...and it has the asme problem!  It wont receive hf.  It is an ICOM IC-718.  So, now I have 2 radios that wont receive hf and it all happened after I used them side by side.  What did I break?  Is it worth fixing?  Thanks everyone!

15  eHam Forums / Elmers / I NEED A KENWOOD TS-2000 EXPERT! HELP! on: February 13, 2010, 08:35:35 AM
Hi everyone, Thank u 4 taking a look at my problem!  I have a brand new (only a few months old (under warranty) Kenwood ts-2000.  It was working flawlessly, no issues whatsoever.  Then, today, I find that I cannot receive HF.  It works fine on the 2 meter/440.  (uhf/vhf work great.  But, on HF I cannot get any incoming signals.  I can xmit on HF just fine, but still...no incoming signals.  Yes, I have reset the ts-2000, yes I am on the correct antenna, etc.  I have even tried different antennas, different tunerand different cables, all to the same result... No incoming HF signals.  I have painstakingly gone through all of the menus etc.  I also called Kenwood, and they of course said to return it for service.  I will, of course do that if necessary....But, I am hoping for a miracle cure from one of you electronics experts!  Thank u for any consideration/help!  It will be much appreciated.
