1  eHam Forums / CW / RE: Learning CW, need advice on: December 24, 2012, 12:32:50 AM
Hi Jim,

Just my two cents:

Fabian, DJ1YFK has a very good CW course on line called http://lcwo.net It's multi-lingual and I hear very good things about it.

Most important thing is: practice on a regular basis, 15 to 30 minutes a day will do the trick. Just don't give up, how hard it may be, you'll get rewarded in the end.

Just remember: thousands before you have learned the code, so can you!

Btw, Fabian now is one of the fastest. Search for video's at Youtube with keyword DJ1YFK.
Not meant to disencourage you, but just to show what's possible ;-)

Good luck and season's greetings!

I am just an old grumpy CW guy full of nostalgia hihi.

We are lucky here in PA the Dutch CW rag-chew freq is 3575, I think I make 90% of my CW QSO's on this freq.

You're not the only "Grumpy" one on that freq ;-)
Another freq if you're a sideswiper-aficionado: 3566 in the evening hours

CW forever!

73 and season's greetings to all!

Just glancing over this thread: no mention of Flexradio + PowerSDR. Recently aquired a second hand Flex 5K, a real joy to use for rag chewing once you get the latency down to acceptable levels. Yesterday had a qso at 26-30 wpm for an hour and a half, real fun!
I guess it comes down to trial and error. Everybody has to find out for themselves which rig suits best.

Hi All....

So what effect does a 500 hz  CW filter have on the Pitch of the CW signal your listening to.

John
None whatsoever! The pitch is controlled either by the main vfo dial or the rit-control, not by the filter. A filter is meant to increase the audio-quality of the desired signal.

hi,

the trick to increase your speed is lowering the weight.
You can order all sorts of weights at the Vibroplex-site, or you could make one to your own liking.
