I'm using a Icom 706MKIIG, turbotuner and HIQ 5/80 on a ford F150 and custom mount. Well bonded, grounded with matching coil at the feed point. Works very well from 80 to 6 meters.
The only drawback with these is the Lexan coil is prone to small cracks that continue unless you stop them by using a hot needle.

I need a source for replacing the cooling fan in my LK500ZB amp. I would like to get one that is quieter than the original yet gives the same or better CFM.

I checked that feature, it is turned off on both units. I also swaped the units and I still have the same problem.
Seems the problem is not the location but the actual unit so, it's off to Icom....
Thanks to all

I have two 706MKIIG's, one is mobile and the other is home based. Both have plenty of power and well grounded.
lately, the mobile unit powers off for 2 seconds then powers back up. This is not on a regular basis and under all driving conditions.
The home based unit will power off and stay off till I press the power button. This too is not on a regular basis.
I have checked the power connections and menu settings for auto power off and such but everything is set up correctly.
I have reset both units and I still have the same problem with both.

eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / 2006 F-150 IGNITION NOISE
|

Thanks for the info! your suggestions where applied already with little or no change in noise. It is coming thru the antenna which is was confirmed by removing the antenna lead and the noise was gone.
The Icom 706MKIIG does not have an option to by-pass the RX preamp stage.
Each component of the mobil system is well grounded. all body parts are grounded to the frame with #4 gauge wire. The exaust is grounded at three points, engine, mid way and at the tailpipe.
I am waiting on a roll of 3M 1181 copper foil EFI supressing tape to come in. I will wrap each "coil-in-plug" unit and ground them all in attempts to shield them and reduce EFI. This will be the last possible solution that I can see from this point.
I'll add to this listing when I have that done with the results.

Thanks for the info! Your are correct, having a "non-res. antenna will shunt to ground and thus be very noisy.
I have tried a few resonant antennas and listened on those bands and found the noise level is the same. I have not wraped the COP and infectors in 3M tape as of yet but this is the next step.
Thanks again!! 73

eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / 2006 F-150 IGNITION NOISE

I have a 2006 Ford F-150 with a IC-706MKIIG, LDG auto tuner, dualband 2M\ 440 and a hamstick for HF.
I grounded the frame, body and body parts along with exhaust in two places, Ferrite on all COP and injector leads. Caps from pos to neg and pos to body. LMR400 from 706 to tuner and from tuner to antennas. Short, large ground from tuner/radio to ground and shielded EVERYTHING. Antenna mounts are solid and well gounded
From 10 to 22 MHz, I get an S20 ignition noise that refuses to go away. When I disconnect the antenna lead, the noise goes away which tells me it is being picked up thru the antenna system.
The one thing I have not tried is to get another truck! Any suggestions?

Thanks for stating the facts, one look on Eham and it is an embarrassment to say the least. All the whose bigger than who, whose mode is better etc...
Being a hobby, it is an individuals choice on which mode he, she, it will like to operate. The knowledge that it takes to professionally operate this equipment is tested by an exam, not a mode the may or may not be used.
Again, CW alone does not make the operator...ever.

I have the original building instructions, currently I am rebuilding the same unit. M2inc.com is the website for M2 located in Fresno, Ca. They have a complete upgrade kit for this beam.
If you provide me with your email or USPS address I can send you the a copy of the instructions that I have.

I am in the process of rebuilding a KT34XA with a complete kit from M2 and aside from M2 instructions, does anyone have any suggestions as to any other points of interest that need to be addressed when rebuilding this monster?
