Mike,

If you check my RadioQTH web site you will see that your call has now shown up and that you have been granted the call.

Give it time.  The data the FCC makes available for download is a day or two behind the live FCC data.  I'm sure your call will show up on the various databases very soon.

The FCC has started processing vanity applications again.  You can see the most recently granted calls by going to www.radioqth.net/vanity/index.html.

***quoted text starts***
Using text messaging, they're not sending/receiving in real time at all. The link is negotiated, and even though the two kids were sitting 20 feet apart, the signal travelled a long way and had to be routed using hardware that doesn't work instantaneously.

Real-time comms will beat that every time, no matter what the mode is.

I would agree with this; however, from what I can tell from the video, the text message was still being entered into the phone when the CW completed.  So taking out the delay you are talking about, they still got their clocks cleaned by the CW.

When Mike indicated that his site would be discontinued, I began trying to duplicate most of what he had on his site. I am hoping to fill the gap, at least in a small way, that has been left by his site going inactive. I benefited from his site as did many others and hated to see the functionality lost to the ham community.

Please visit my website and let me know if you have any suggestions for what I may still be lacking.

In order to let you know how good a deal you are getting you would need to provide more information about the actual computer.  Lindows is probably not the best but it can easily be removed from the computer and you can then install a version of Windows 2000, XP or whatever your preference is.  If the computer itself is decent it may be a cheap way to get a good computer.  But again, you would need to provide more details on the computer itself.
