1  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / RE: What is the cheapest way to add HF mobile? (low budget) on: February 04, 2013, 01:29:42 PM
I have used a MFJ 9420 with a hamstick.  It is not that fancy but it works and it will be within your price range.  A good working 9420 can be had for $100.00 at hamfests.  Forget Ebay as they usually want as much as you can buy a new @ the candy store.  A cheap 9420 can be had on Eham, but they are few and far between.  The Atlas 210 is a good choice as is a Alda 103 or 105 if you need multiband operation.  An Amp supply monobander is also a great little 20 watt rig.

"And how many
hams will want to build SMT kits?"

73, Ken  AD6KA

I do not know, but Tony Parks has no trouble selling all the SoftRock kits he can make and they have more than a few SMD components.  I think he was up to 15,000 + so far.

From the WB5RVZ website:
"It is estimated that, since the Softrock's inception in 2005, over 15,000 kits have been shipped to builders in about 60 different countries."
3  eHam Forums / QRP / Glowbug 40 assembly manual and schematic wanted. on: September 17, 2012, 01:57:31 PM
Hello all,

I just acquired a Glowbug 40 this weekend and I need the assembly
manual and schematic .  The previous builders kills
were somewhat lacking and it is questionable if the right components
got into the correct locations of the PCB.  I would like
to rebuild the unit.  Anyone have a copy or a scan of the manual they
could send me?

Thanks,
Randy AB9GO

From his NEW website.  This guy can sure spin a yarn.

Hallicrafters SX-62A Shortwave Receiver restored

I don't believe you will ever find another close to brand new example of this classic vintage like this one.

Please see the additional pictures below so you can see exactly how nice the receiver actually is.

( Warning!!! BS alert ) Shocked

It sat in a box unused since new, I was invited to do a shack clearance and there were so many brand new vintage rigs just sat in boxes, I am slowly getting to them and carefully testing them.

I have checked alignment of this receiver and its perfect, a receiver you will be proud to own and show off.

(End BS alert)

Yaesu FT-ONE, Brand New, Never Used, Very Rare.

( Warning!!! BS alert ) Shocked

This is one that sat behind glass,

( Warning!!! BS alert ) Shocked

I was surprised when I opened the shck door to see that several items were in boxes brand new.

I have had excellent luck with R & L on new purchases with some of the best prices around.  I find that their prices on used equipment to be fair.  Overall good people to deal with.

8  eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / RE: Tubular capacitor in HW-101? on: October 23, 2010, 01:52:49 PM
Recaping is the best way to restore any older rig that uses paper caps.  Many parts are made of unobtanium and may be damaged by "trying it" with the old parts in place.

You replace components without any evidence indicating the components need to be replaced yet you say you are not shot gunning component replacement. I'm sorry but you are shot gunning component replacement and that is very poor practice. How do you determine when a component should be replaced? How do you determine when to replace an electrolytic capacitor? Because the components are old? If that's your method then that is very poor troubleshooting and repair practice!

Holy crap. Have you ever heard of re-capping? Which is essentially what I am doing? There are loads of websites on this. I have not troubleshot this. I was simply re-capping first. Read the initial question. The question was about a cap and if it needs replacement, like electrolytics. It said nothing about whether it being bad. That is very poor practice? Re-capping is a bad practice?

What steps were taken to determine the VFO is actually not oscillating?
The owner told me as such. It was his restore project and he gave to me. He even supplied me with a spare VFO. Are you following the thread?

You are going to rebuild a VFO without any troubleshooting or taking any steps to determine "why" the VFO is not working? Why?

Because the owner told me such. Which is why he supplied me a spare. It appears he had already troubleshot that part of the rig.

I did notice that there is no -grid bias.  Now I have to make a supply. Cry

QST for April, 1970. Pages 32-35, "Building A Skinnier Linear".

Uses a single 6LF6 in grounded grid to boost the output of a QRP rig on 80 through 15 meters. The 6LF6 is a beefier tube than the 6LQ6 so you would run the latter at lower power.

6 meters is another story, though.

If you want to try it, I'd suggest first trying to convert the amp for one HF band (say, 75 meters) and seeing how it will work there.

73 de Jim, N2EY

I do not have to mod it for a HF band as it can do 15 meters now. Smiley  The output network is 15, 10, and 6.

11  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: Apollo 300X Base Amplifier Schematic on: September 28, 2010, 05:28:30 PM
Knight used the 6dq6 in the t-60 and a sweep tube in the t-175 2x 6JE6 both sweep tubes on 6 meters.  Will they be as efficient as a purpose built RF tube?  No, but they may work well enough.

Still looking for the schematic.

12  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Apollo 300X Base Amplifier Schematic on: September 28, 2010, 08:06:47 AM
Hello all,

I just picked one of these up @ the local hamfest in good condition for the grand sum of $5.00. It is a late 60's 6-10-15 meter (CB) amp that uses a single 6LQ6 in a grounded grid configuration.  (I have stashed several new 6LQ6's so tube cost is not an issue.)  I am interested in reforming this amp from the CB bands to use on 6 meters with a MFJ-9406 for a little more power when needed. Anyone have a schematic for this or a generic one tube 6LQ6 amp?

Thanks,

From a QRZ forum on radio-mart:

Crime involving E-Bay listings:

I found this at http://www.leadsonline.com/main/civilians/
about a crime involving E-Bay

If the potential crime involved a listing on the eBay website:

eBay works hard to keep its members safe and prevent illegal transactions on its website without compromising the privacy of its member community.

Certain member information is made available to law enforcement investigators via LeadsOnline First Responder Service for criminal investigations.

If you believe you are the victim of a crime involving a listing on eBay, simply contact your local law enforcement agency and request that they access LeadsOnline First Responder Service to work your case. Even if they don't use other LeadsOnline services, they can access First Responder Service, 24 hours a day, seven days a week in real time on an individual case basis................................

If you look at his auction description it states in red that "No Reserve price set for this item.", but the auction ended with the "reserve not met."  Take a look for yourself.  This guy has to be buying from local hamfests in addition to his EBay purchasing.  Does anyone have a picture of this guy?  If someone can find one I would like to see it.  I would never sell ANYTHING to him @ a hamfest if I knew him by sight.  He is close enough to the South East Indiana, Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati area to shop @ our local fests.

Randy.

BE WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE'S BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Listed as new a AOR AR-3000 scanner but who knows the "real" condition based on the comments here...

http://www.ventenna.com

HFp-Vertical (40M-6M) $193.45
80M Coil (80-75-60 Meters) $26.90

A note to CAP and SWL enthusiasts - This antenna is so configurable that it can actually be set to resonate at ANY frequency between 6.5 and 35 MHz.
