31  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Amp Supply LK-500B questions. on: April 06, 2008, 05:39:17 PM
That is what I understand is that the "B" series had some kind of protection and the "C" series even more.  Does someone know what the protection is/was.  The schematic is no help.  This manual should be required reading in a course on technical documentation as a prime example of poor documentation and the issues raised by it.

32  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Amp Supply LK-500B questions. on: April 06, 2008, 07:07:10 AM
Since the owner of Omega is now SK, who is now the best source of info and parts? Anyone taking over Omega? I have read here that there is some kind of tube protection on the "B" version and more on the "C". I see nothing on the schematic and nothing mentioned in the manual. Can anyone clarify this please???

Thank you,

33  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Amp Supply LK-500B QSK better schematic available? on: April 04, 2008, 06:43:48 PM
I recently aquired a LK-500B with QSK that needs some work.  I have the original manual and schematic but these leave a lot to be desired.  I have a QSK/VOX switch on the back of the amp, but not on the schematic, two connections marked "2 purple wires" on the schematic that God only knows what they connect to, etc.  I have downloaded the BAMA copy and it is basicly the same manual that I have except many of the pages still reference the "LK-500A" version on my original with a few items changed to "LK-500B".    Anyone have a better copy of the "B" version schematic or maybe a copy of the "C" version might be helpful and more complete.

34  eHam Forums / Elmers / LCD VS. CRT MONITOR on: August 31, 2004, 09:57:18 AM
This is not completely true.  There is a high voltage inverter (Depending on the size of the screen there will be 1, 2 or more of them.  One per lamp.) to power the cold cathode lamps.  I have a 3 year old 15" H/P and it has just as much RFI as a CRT monitor.  Take a old AM transistor radio with you when you look at LCD monitors and test each one for RFI.

35  eHam Forums / Elmers / Source for 48-50VDC Supply on: July 20, 2004, 05:02:28 PM
p.s.  Almost forgot, they  were 208 V 3 phase.
36  eHam Forums / Elmers / Source for 48-50VDC Supply on: July 20, 2004, 05:01:04 PM
Remember that some of the larger and older supplies were intended to be used with a battery bank.  They have very little filtering (if any) in them as the battery bank acted as the filter cap.  Of course the units not intended to be used with batteries have filter caps and are OK for what you are doing.  I maintained a phone switch several years ago that had 4 50A rectifiers float charging a 48 V, 2000 Ah battery bank.  There was no filtering in them and they were made circa 1980.  In my case recitfier was a better description for them than a power supply.

37  eHam Forums / APRS / KPC-3 ver 8.2 software wanted on: June 26, 2004, 12:03:25 AM
It looks for a .hex file or a Intel hex file will work too.  It will take a straight ASCII hex file with no problem.

Email the file to :

crrandal@earthlink.net
or
(SPAM)ab9go(STINKS)@earthlink.net

Thanks a bunch,
Randy

Also if you have the hex code I can burn my own EPROM.  Please Email it to me!

Thanks,
Randy.
40  eHam Forums / APRS / RadioShack Digitraveller ? on: June 05, 2004, 07:51:54 PM
RadioShack recently closed the unit out at $29.95!  The only thing you will find now is the PDA version, but it outputs standard RS-232 just like the PC version.  If you can still find one grab-it!!!!  It has a CMOS for low power draw too!

Hello. Looking for the 8.2 software upgrade for my Kantronics KPC-3. If you have upgraded your KPC and have the 8.2 gathering dust, drop me a line.  Kantronics isn't supporting the non-plus anymore.

Thanks,

42  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / Schematic for a Kenwood TM-732A on: June 04, 2004, 04:44:17 PM
Hello.  If anyone has a readable copy of the TM-732A schematic could you please scan it for me?  There is one on the internet but scanned at such a low resolution that the info I need is unreadable!  I need to pick off the audio and COS (squelch) signals for a repeater project.

Thanks,

44  eHam Forums / Elmers / BPL mitigation? Worst case scenario? on: February 15, 2004, 02:30:14 PM
"The interference issue works both ways and we, legally again, can just do whatever we want. Fire up the amp if the BPL signal is too much; imagine those wars!!"

Martin F. Jue will be a winner for sure in this war.  Think of all the Ameritron amplifiers he will be selling!  What a stinking mess.  All hams running 100 watts and most at the 600 + level.  QRP will be dead.  Think of all the RFI and neighbour complaints.  It's scary!  And when the BPL connections slow down the helpful folks at the BPL provider will be more than happy to provide info on how to complain to the FCC about those annoying hams ruining the connection for them.  Maybe they will provide fill in the blank forms with stamped and addressed envelopes!  Think I exagerate?   Just wait and time will tell.  ( I'll bet I'm right! )

From what I have read, the BPL providers will be required to provide a mitigation soulution by not using the offending frequencies.  As a ham I want 160, 80, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 meters to be excluded.  Will this happen?  No.  Exclusion reduces bandwidth.  Reduced bandwith = lower BPL speed.  Lower BPL speed = reduced revenue.  Money is the reason the FCC is proceeding with this plan.  There is no way that the BPL services will give up this much bandwith and I am not yet figuring in the other services that will want their frequencies excluded.  There is a JA that had  .wav files of BPL interference from a trial BPL in Japan ( Japan killed BPL by the way) that you could download.  Try a Google search.  You may like to run them through your favorite DSP filter to see what you get.  But the BPL signal was 30db over 9 so I do not think ANYTHING will help very much!
