I agree with the above posts, this is absolute rubbish Why on Earth would they make changes like this at a time like this! The next phase will be to see what happens with the HRD 5.xx free version, will it be supported or will this be the moment when they say get 6.x or say goodbye to using LoTW with the HRD software. If vers 5.xx won't load up to LOTW then I will say good by to HRD and not upgade any time period. It has benn on my mind to do so but I figured I would let them get the bugs out (say by vers. 7) before I buy it!! Rick wn2c

This is a tuner question, not an antenna question thank you! if the antenna is not stable, I'd go after that first.
REQ is right... you need to look at the antenna also. Maybe raising it ten feet might help and keep this issue of changing swr when turning it over the house from happening. The tuner is just part of the antenna system. As far as a tuner when you add an amp, if you can afford it the Palstar AT-auto would definitely would be nice. Especially if you use computer control of the radio like HRD. Rick wn2c

This question can be answered by rereading the Tech license manual. Not the section where the questions are but the rest of the book. As different bands will have different propagation at different times of the day or night.

Well, I would have used self tapping screws to put it together. Had a 7000 and it came loose on a few of the joints. Had to take it down to tighten, so I used self tappers in 2 spots (offset) so it wouldn't come loose. Then the ground strap let go after a while. Took it back down and took it apart. Left the antenna outside and brought in the matching box inside to the garage. Then had a fire in the garage and lost the box (melted goo) in the fire. I wish I could find a matching box, but with all the trouble this antenna has given me I am not sure why. HI HI. I think Murphy came with it.

eHam Forums / CW / RE: (M)CW on 2m: which frequency range?

Just found the answer: only above 144.1 is available for FM, which I'd be doing. The fact that it is Morse code I would be sending does not make it CW. So there, topic closed Your right it is not CW but MCW and there may be quite a few locals around your area that may want to learn Morse code. You could be a teacher of the oldest form of radio communication to some who want to learn it. I was just talking to some one tonight and this subject came up and doing it on the club repeater for maybe an hour on Saturday night as there is no nets that night. Now where did I put the April issue of QST so I can get that parts list? Sounds like fun! Rick wn2c

In my life I have never seen such a gun and ammo craze. Special interests (NRA which is really controlled by gun lobby) is fueling media and media is causing consumer panic and hording. The result is the kind of supply and demand than suppliers love.
No, I think it Pres. Obama and Sen. Feinstein and other liberal do-gooders wanting to limit what law abiding Americans can own is what is causing the ammo shortage and the increase in gun sales and increase in NRA membership. Same thing happened when Brady was talked about before it was passed. Rick wn2c

I have a ATAS 120 antenna, with a 857D and it works GREAT I never had any problems with it. So far I have worked into Russia Ausi and about 5-6 other DX-countries I also worked South America the ATAS-120 is working just fine for me,and I have been happy, with it
I have had a screw driver, and a little tar-heel ,and ham sticks . and have been happy with them also. They all work
My plans is to drive to Dayton this year and if any body cotacts me, they well get a QSL card
suitable for framing from me
They may all work, but some work a whole lot better than others! It is all about 'Q'. Rick wn2c

Are you sure it is not silver migration? Use a spray cleaner used for cleaning pc boards (after removing it from radio) and see what happens. What have you got to loose, the cost of a can of spray cleaner?

eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Nick N1IC – How to Save Ham Radio – 5 Part Series
|
on: April 13, 2013, 08:03:48 PM

If you read old QSTs or CQ magazines, you will find a common thread about the decline of Ham Radio. They have been saying it for years or decades in fact. I know that that young people are not getting involved like they did during the 'early days of radio' but what is it that will make them think of Ham Radio. I had an older gentleman ask me what it was I had mounted on the back of my pick up truck. When I told him it was an antenna for ham radio or amateur radio he looked at me and said what is that. I asked him if he remembered when growing up, the guy somewhere down the block who had that big tower in his back yard and caused your TV go go out on the blink? He said yes and then said "they still do that?" So, my point is this; it may not be a problem of getting younger people involved, it may be more of getting the general public to know about Ham Radio and what we can do. I don't mean just talking to people in far away places, I mean using computers to talk to others in far away places, the International Space station using ham radio, and the fact that ham radio is in the public intrest. We need to talk up Amateur Radio and what one can do with it, not for the person doing the talking but for the person doing the listening. What is it that they are looking for.

Ray, the locals are on 144.300 USB and then switch to Olivia 8-500, starting at 1900 local AZ Phoenix time. Keep in mind Arizona does not use Daylight Savings time. Hope this helps. I am working on putting up a ten element on a 35 foot tower running 100 watts. Maybe we can try it some time.
