eHam Forums / Computers And Software / Need Help with Logger v8.07!

I've got Logger v8.07 installed under Windows 2000, and cannot figure out why it keeps giving me an Illegal Function Call error whenever I try to add new entries to the log or pretty much anything involving the log.
Anyone know if Logger v8.07 is supposed to work under Windows 2000 SP2 or what this error is all about? I seem to remember it working well for me under Win98SE. For that matter, does anyone know how to contact the authors of this software? They don't seem to provide that info in the help file.
Thanks in advance.

eHam Forums / Elmers / Any suggestions for FRS radios

I did a LOT of research on this topic and, after looking at the all the top brands about 6 months ago I decided on the Icom IC-4008A. Very feature rich, much to lengthy to go into here. Has standard mic and ext spk jacks on top that allow me to use my Maha external spek/mic, as well as earbud/mic combos. Great range, runs on 3 standard AA cells. IMHO these are built very well, sound great, check them out at www.icomamerica.com/frs. Bought mine from www.bills2way.com, great price, service and advice. BTW, this first pair I bought were so cool I bought four more for the kids and grandparents! 73s, John

eHam Forums / Elmers / 1000D or 1000MP MkV??
on: September 15, 2000, 09:21:58 AM
Yes, it's the question of the year...... I've wanted to buy a FT-1000D for years now, but I recently heard from multiple long-time contesters that if they were buying a new rig today, they would not buy one without IF-DSP. Yet, the QST tested specs of the 1000D look hard to improve on, and none of the modern day IF-DSP rigs look as strong. I guess we'll only know when QST reviews the Mark V, but underlying the Class A PA, EDSP, IDBT and added features, is the pure receiver performance of the 1000MP Mk V basically the original 1000MP or have there been significant improvements to the MP-5 AS A RECEIVER to bring it into the league of the 1000D? Or does the 1000MP MkV not need the same blocking dynamic range and 3rd order intercept ratings in order to perform as well, due to the technological enhancements in the unit? One could then say the same of the 756PRO? I'm hoping to EVENTUALLY buy one of these, if I can ever decide. Cmon, QST, I'm waiting...... What are your thoughts?? Thanks, John KE4AQP ke4aqp@email.com

Thanks! This suggestion works exactly as described, and you have made my day! I've written it into my manual, wonder why they didn't put it there in the first place.....?

eHam Forums / Elmers / Radioworks Carolina BEAM??
on: September 12, 2000, 03:44:04 PM
Considering purchasing one of the Radioworks Carolina Beam antennas. I'm very interested in working DX, but I need it to be an "all-around" antenna as well. Any help would be great. Does these antennas really work as well as advertised, and how is the SWR on the "beam" models (suitable for an internal autotuner if I install about 35 feet up)? Any problems with the vertical radiators at the ends being near trees? I might have to buy one made up of insulated wire because of this.
I could very well make up my own dipole, but the good words written on this site about RadioWorks antennas intrigue me.
Thanks, John.

eHam Forums / Elmers / Crossband Repeat on Icom 2410H??
on: September 10, 2000, 07:23:37 PM
Anyone out there know if the Icom IC-2410H dualbander is capable of cross-band (or in-band for that matter) repeater capability? If so, how do you put it in actual cross-band repeater mode? Instruction manual seems to discuss doing crossband full duplex, but this appears to be simply the ability for the local operator of the 2410H to listen on one band while simultaneously using the attached microphone to transmit on another. Also, I cannot seem to get mine to transmit on a repeater input down 5Mhz from 444.475. My Kenwood 732A does that just fine. Is there a mod for this? Appreciate any help, ke4aqp@email.com.

eHam Forums / Elmers / Measuring SWR on mobile dualbander w/external dupl
on: June 28, 2000, 07:59:30 PM
Oops. Sorry about that Geary. The SWR meter I am using is a Yaesu YS-500 with 144Mhz - 512 Mhz coverage. I guess I am just confused as to whether for the purposes of SWR measurement the duplexor should be treated as part of the antenna system (and thus its reactance taken into account by the meter) or treated as part of the "rig". Thanks, John.

eHam Forums / Elmers / Measuring SWR on mobile dualbander w/external dupl

I have a Kenwood 732A with 2 meter and 70cm coax outputs, which connect to a Diamond duplexor and then to my Larsen 2/70 via a single RG-58A/U coax feed. When measuring and adjusting the SWR and reflected power of my mobile antenna, should the SWR / Power meter between the rig and the duplexer or between the duplexer and the antenna? My inclination is between the rig and the duplexer, but I would like another correcting or confirming opinion.
73 and thanks,
John
