This will likely sound silly but can someone explain to this ham why 2 meter mobile radios don't usually have a ground connection? (for RF grd)Am using it for base station.

The Hygain came supplied with the coax balun. I just installed per their instructions. I have a picture of it I could show you but it is mounted and pointing as you said. I am going down the basement to the shack tonight to cutoff and put on another new PL-259. I have a gut feeling it is the antenna at fault. It is mounted 8 feet below a 32 foot KLM HF beam and 8 feet above another VHF 3 ele yagi. Thanks agn.

Thanks Dan. I wonder if a person can buy a commercial choke for vhf to mount at the antenna? My other vhf yagi antenna on the same tower pipe has no issues.

Unfortunately I don't climb towers and my climber is busy for the next while. The antenna is mounted to a pipe that is parallel with the tower and about 1 foot away from the tower. The AEA 140-525 analyzer shows return loss and vswr only.

Hi.I think I may have common mode current on my new coax. I have been trying to learn about potential causes rather than chokes. Is it usually from a bad antenna (i.e. high swr)or many possible reasons? Thanks.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. The meters are for vhf,the one quite expensive, and the co-ax new RG-213. I will re-check the connectors. When assembling the new antenna I followed the instructions exactly. I appreciate the help.

Hi,I put up a new hygain VB25 yagi antenna off the side of my tower at 40 feet up to work repeaters. Using an AEA analyzer and a Daiwa swr meter I find a 2:1 vswr around 146 Mhz using new cable and new connectors. When I add a short length of coax the bump moves up 1 Mhz. Common mode rf? I wonder also if it is mtd (on a pipe)perhaps too close to the tower? Thank-you for your suggestions.
