I agree that putting in a lot of repeaters for a trip can be unless when I travel I use the simplex and a few of hopfully active ones also I try some echolink seems to work

I trying to test a HF APRS using a ft857 and a tiny track+3 on the 30meter band ok how do I know its working should I be able to see it on the apprs map....thanks

I have a comet gp-9 up at 25 ft had it up for 3 yrs no problem now I have a problem high swr on uhf over 3.5 on vhf close to 3.0 this happen after a thunder storm I took antenna down chk'd everything replace coax and chk'd again still high swr ......what next???/.........thanks

Hi fellow hams there is a big discussion in the Ft-950 group on using the alc with  a amp and also using a buffer like arb-704 I just got the cable made up with relay and alc and was  going straight to al-811h ? do i need buffer with alc or no alc or just use relay plug............thanks

HI and welcome to the world of ham radio ....For a first time radio use the KISS method (keep it simple st...) if in your budget get a dual band the have a better resale.....as for a antenna a simple dual band like a comet gp-9........join a club if possible they may have radio's there try them................good luck

Be aware of buying on ebay most sellers are not hams buy from a ham that you can contact so you can ask questions

this maybe a leaking alternator you can get a inline noise noise filter also could be noise from spark plugs .......I'd try the noise filter also make sure you have good body grounds for antenna and radio.....

Like to know if tuning a amp into dummy load then changing to operating band changes the amp output on that band or do I need to touch up............thanks

There is no just a great radio all hams have their opinion as to a great radio myself I like Yaesu have a ft-950 and a ft-897 with a 10-80 dipole ......find a ham near you see if he'll let you listen to his station or a ham event that has different setups......I know this is not a great answer hope it helps............I started with a old heath kit receiver ...........good luck

Hi seems found the problem moved the radio to a different location also the mag antenna added toroid and its working...had the radio mounted directly under the computer not good.........thanks for all replies...........weird
