106  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: Is the Wireman still open? on: April 13, 2013, 01:22:58 PM
Yes,stocking issues,my coax order was delayed by about 2 weeks, got it last week and they won't charge your card until it is shipped. They also told me that they were changing their computer system.I kept in touch with them via land line.

Google or look up [ Electrician's Long Splice] this is the splice we use on ship's long wire antennas.Splice won't affect effenciency if done properly.

Call your local area trucking transportation brokers.Local owner operators coming back from cross country are sometimes empty or light loaded and will often haul back at very reasonable often cheap rate to your home area.I use this method when transporting small sailboats from the Great Lakes to Maine.
110  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: DB-58 coax cable information needed. on: April 13, 2013, 05:13:13 AM
Re: G4IJE
Thanks for reply.Diameter is 3/16 in.I picked up several lengths 2-10 ft. all with 239 connectors attached so have not checked braid or center conductor yet.Person who had these had a vhf/uhf radio communication repair business.I thought they may be similar to RG but the DB threw me off. I'll hook up a couple today and see what happens.
111  eHam Forums / Elmers / DB-58 coax cable information needed. on: April 13, 2013, 02:33:20 AM
I recently picked up some coax which was only labled [Decibel products Inc. DB-58].I checked the internet for info and could only find that Decibel products made or makes high end vhf/uhf antennas but no info on this type of coax. I would like to know if this is suitable for use with low power ( QRP) jumpers, feedline etc. Thanks

Don't completely discount your spiritual happening, remember rf from brainwaves while alive go on for eternity through space and who knows what shape, form or action possible receivers may take(we will all find out for sure once we get there).Until we do I'll put my money on the sleep walking theory, since I've done one or two strange things during the night myself. In the mean time enjoy your reacquainting with grand dad.
114  eHam Forums / QRP / RE: New QRP RADIO: X1M QRP Transceiver $299 on: April 11, 2013, 09:33:37 AM
Is there a physical address for [ Import Communications] formerly Wouxon.us? I checked the Import Communications web site (as above) and couldn't find it,maybe I'm just getting to old.
115  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / 12 month antenna experiment results on: April 09, 2013, 08:43:46 AM
AB test results with a homebrew 66ft.New Carolina type windom antenna flatop at 23 FT.height with bottom of vertical radiator 13 ft. above ground, coax fed and no tuner.Last spring I put a 16 ft. long aluminum extension ladder directly underneath and parallel to the hoizonal wire and centered directly underneath the hanging vertical radiator. On both 20/40m QRP results were further dx contacts, consistant higher RST reports with ladder during many on air AB test(going out and removing ladder and putting back) same positive results when I tried isolating the ladder from ground by setting it atop of 5 gal. plastic buckets.I can only conclude that the presence of this ladder is having some type of combination better ground or reflector effect on either the horizontal or vertical radiator or maybe both.I will soon be removing the ladder and in it's footprint I will bury 14 16 ft. long wires and see what happens.Antenna and ladder is in back yard out of sight so no greif from the XYL.
116  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: Do you use any homebrewed gear for DX-ing on: April 09, 2013, 07:28:43 AM
Two way QRP/CW from N.England across the pond to the U.K./Continent on 20/40m is usually a daily occurrence especially following normal propagation and grey lines with both sides using simple wire antennas. Also QRP/CW activity from N.England to West Coast USA and in between on 20M around 1500-1700 GMT.

Re:K1CJS

Ah,now I get it, sort of like trying to identify your stenciled name on the over stretched elastic waist band on a worn pair of Navy issue skivvies from the ship's laundry.

As hard as I try I fail to see the analogy between SSTV and play dough unless you were referring to the last live TV episode of an aged drooling Captain Kangaroo doing his thing in the nursing home's recreation room.
