This should be interesting.Until now I always thought D-Star meant Death Star in one of the old Star War movies I saw years ago.

Re:GILGSN
You hit the nail on the head with PORTABLE definitions. There IS a big difference between back packing or canoeing my MFJ Cubs into the wilderness and using my fragile K1 from my back yard patio table or the picnic table at the local parks but no noticeable difference between amount of contacts between the 2 1/2 and 5 watts of the two.

I've got an idea, how about a good seperate receiver and a nice seperate homebrew xtmr.?Maybe someone could design a special switch so you could use both on the same antenna,I heard a few hams use to operate with this type of set up a few years back.

Sorry guys I just increased my price to $350.00 plus shipping and handling.I was just informed by a knowledgeable collector that this box could be worth thousands to a person able to restore it to its original use and not just buy it for display purposes.I intended to display it myself, but since my XYL is French/Canadian all available flat surfaces and window shelves in the house is already spoken for.

Re:KD2CJJ
Reading an ARRL book=Self knowledge/education written mostly by acknowledged professional or technical experts in their fields.Recommending such to a poster will result in factual knowledge other than just assorted opinions.
Google for information=A world of information out there similar to reading books, obviously you know this but apparently have not spent much time reading books.
Search on Forums=Same popular questions previously addressed, saves time and usually a poster's answere to a question can be found . If your definitions of any suggestions of the above make"most on here old trolls" I suggest you change bait and do your trolling in another fishing spot.

A simple way to decrease the wind induced harmonics transmitted down the tower legs is to install small diameter aircraft type cable with small turnbuckle in middle between two opposing legs in a crisscross fashion as you go up,just a slight amount of tension is needed and only a few between house level and about 10 ft. above roof level is needed. This will not completely eliminate the vibration hum but will reduce it considerably.I never tried the rubber spacers but it sounds like a good idea.
