46  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: Too much info on PSK31?? on: October 11, 2012, 05:21:14 PM
Well, I do have the TS940SAT and have used FSK mode before when in CA (before the move). I will try that. Perhaps for low power I can even try a CQ if I can get the antenna away from me.

WOW, I see what you guys mean! I am not on yet, as I have not put up my antenna(s) from our move to Oregon. BUT, I d/l Digipan and tried the k7age sample! I see some equipment brag files showing their computers memory! GEEZE!

One thing I did not expect was the RTTY type typos. Is this noise or just guys who do not type well. I don't care I just thought for some reason that the "print" would be clean.

One thing I may try is to bring my TS940 up to this computer (that I built myself with 1 GB of memor...OH, never mind :-)) and attach a hunk of wire for an antenna to see what I can copy live on 20M.

Yeah, remember RTTY Pictures that took forever?
49  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: PK-232 on USB on: July 16, 2012, 01:18:36 PM
Well, I never did use my PK232 much. I did contact, and get a QSL from, China on packet. BZ4FB I believe.

I believe that JT65 was a EME mode for very low level signals. It works great for very low power, and restricted antennas, on HF. It is NOT a rag chew mode. Anyway, not sure what to do with my PK232, but will wait a bit to decide.

Bob, what freq are these tones on? Can it be JT65-HF?

Also, you may find that Ham Radio is a good use for an old Computer. Perhaps running LINUX would make it very fast...or fast enough for Ham Radio.

P.S. I have an original PK232, but am amazed at what they want to upgrade it!!!

OK...I am going to put my R5 6' off the ground and see how that works. Perhaps I can use it for the "bad" directions!

...also isn't the RG11 VF 0.75? You show 0.66, or am I missing something here. Can you imagine an 11DB antenna on 10M when it is open?

OK, so on 28.4 I get

34.65 X 1/4 X 0.66 - aan RG11 section of 5.72 Feet?

Thank you Jerry.

"You should use a 1/4 wave section. For 20 meters that's 11.5 ft of RG11."

I am a little surprised as 11.5 Feet seems short for 20M 1/4 wave.

So, the RG11 is attached at the feedpoint. Still, do we use the same data as was in QST for the 2 phasing lines?

Would you change the data for wire length on 10M as you suggest on 20M?

I was thinking of an HGSW for 10M. It should be a heck of an antenna and not too long. It also does not need to be very high, either. Now I need to check what was said about the Inductor. I like the RG11 idea and eliminate the inductor. How long would the RG11 sectiom be on 10M? Is it just 1/4 wave?
57  eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / Are CC&R's valid without an active HOA? on: June 22, 2009, 02:52:05 PM
Hello:

Same here. We have been in this house since '95.

As I said, we do have to live here so even if I can prove that a small tower would be OK, I would not want any "Stuff: from the neighbors.

I always wonder why "No Antennas" seems to be the only part of the CC&R's that they get upset about! Everyone else can have barking dogs, etc and that is OK!

You are not too far from ARRL, so you may want to call them. They DO have people who can help you, or at least tell you what to do.

P.S. I grew up in Hartford as K1NBW.

I have the 22C (now in a box in my attic) and believe that there was a relay in the switch box. All you did was run the voltage (12VDC?) from the shack to the switch box and that switched the thing. This sometimes made a big difference even on land QSO's!
60  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / New Upgrade Kit for Zero Five 43' Verticals??? on: June 10, 2009, 02:10:56 PM
OK, I thank everyone for their reply(s). I did use this R5 at another location and know that my 3Y0PI was not a 1 time dx contact. I made many and almost became "one of them" who only cared about DX. :-)

At any rate, I have the R5 and have no downside to just trying it.

Since I believe this is now way OT, I think that I should not continue in this thread.

Great idea, BTW, about starting a thread about the worst antenna we ever used...that worked. As a Novice, my 40M dipole was at about 15'...if that...and I worked so much DX when I loaded it on 15M!
