1  eHam Forums / Emergency Communications / Advice Wanted on: February 03, 2004, 02:08:15 PM
Right On!! This guy isn't the 'bad guy'...he's trying to SAVE LIVES.

The FCC rules state than you can use "any means neccessary" to communicate in an emergency.

Listening for a 'stand down' violates no rules.

Should the FCC take me to task for my use of a radio to save a life...so be it. I'll worry about that after the victim is out of danger.

Help me with my thinking...these detractors would let an accident victim DIE rather than break a rule?

To the first 2 responders to this thread: you should really consider the impact your curtness has on people like this volunteer. With the movement to recruit new blood into the ametuer ranks, you sure make a new person feel welcome.

To the original poster: Talk to some local hams. The ham community is a great bunch of folks with very few exceptions.  There are avenues open to you which provide for your stated goals. Stay safe.

A political convention of "legends in their own minds" I would surmise!

I'd thank them and leave post haste! The Ham radio community, for the most part, is made up of generous and gracious individuals!

One joins a club to learn from and enjoy the fellowship of the other members. Any club that "votes" on membership has some "seriously" problems. They take themselves too seriously.

Keep looking. There are clubs around that aren't anal retentive and will enjoy your association ....without "voting" for you!
