3  eHam Forums / Misc / Knothead Net on HF? on: January 26, 2010, 11:49:01 AM
A dear (Ham) friend of mine has recently suffered a stroke that has greatly taken a toll on his memory. I am trying to help him set up his radio for listening. I know that he was very fond of a HF net, that I believe was called the Knothead Net, or something very similar. Can anyone tell me the frequency and times for this net?

Thanks for your time and consideration,
Mark

4  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Bracketed Rohn 25G on: August 05, 2008, 07:45:42 PM
Rohn 25G is surprisingly strong and forgiving. However, it only takes one failure to be sorry. Plus, if they are used tower sections, you don't know what types of stress that they have been subject to in the past, or if there is any internal corrosion. I definitely wouldn't climb it, with it un-guyed above the 16 ft. level. If you decide to do this, make sure that your insurances (liability, health and life) are up to date. ;?) 73!
5  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / AM-6155 Power Supply Schematic on: August 05, 2008, 07:36:10 PM
Thanks Jeff! This one helped a lot. We're in the process of converting the amp to 222 and didn't have a clear schematic.

Greetings, I am in need of a schematic for the AM-6155 power supply. I've located two on the web so far, but neither is of decent enough resolution to read all of the values. Any pointers for a good electronic version would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and 73,
Mark, KØXXX
7  eHam Forums / Satellites / FT-736R Full Duplex Set-Up Questions on: March 28, 2008, 08:19:54 AM
Thanks Phil!
8  eHam Forums / Satellites / FT-736R Full Duplex Set-Up Questions on: March 22, 2008, 07:02:41 PM
Ok, I'm new at this so please forgive me if these should be obvious... The 736R manual explains how to set up full duplex so that the tx freq tunes with (opposite direction) of the rx frequency, as you adjust the rx freq for doppler shift. So, here are my questions.

1. Where do initially set my tx freq? On the UL freq listed for the sat?

2. Since the satellite is normally in full use before it gets within range for me to hear it, how would I listen for my own signal without interfering with others using the bird? Will tuning in the received signals work instead?

Thanks for your time and consideration,
Mark, KØXXX
9  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / AL-80 to 6m Single Band Conversion Info on: August 22, 2006, 08:09:18 PM
On my Daiwa CN-101L, and I can not vouch for it's accuracy, I show about 800w out with about 70w drive.

Recently, AB5F converted my AL-80 to single band 6m. I have a write-up by him on my web pages in case anyone is considering a similar conversion and would like to see what he has done. The url is:

11  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Low RX When Amp Is Online on: January 27, 2006, 04:14:41 PM
Yep, the problem lies in the rig. The keying relay in the rig was stuck closed. Even though the 746 manual says that the rig should be able to handle the voltage and amperage from the amp, aparently it doesn't. The relay is now unstuck and everything is working correctly.

I've had this amp for 4 years and had never got around to using it. It may be four more years before I use it again but for now when I do, I will be using a footswitch to key the amp until I get a buffer built.

I really appreciate everyone's help and patience. Thanks Dale!

73 all,
Mark
12  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Low RX When Amp Is Online on: January 26, 2006, 08:44:50 PM
Once I switch the amp from Standby to Operate, the amp is keyed via a cable between the rig (IC-746)and the amp. I have checked and re-checked the cable. I've even tried a couple of others just to be sure. As soon as the switch to Operate is made, the rx drops.

I do have some additional info, though. It is, I believe, something to do with the rig. I have since tried an AL-80 (converted to 6 meters) and the same thing happens. I am re-reading the 746 manual, hoping to find something that I missed about setting the rig up.

With this new info, I may be in the wrong forum since it may not be anything dpecific to the amp after all. I do really appreciate your (as well as everyone else) input and help.

13  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Low RX When Amp Is Online on: January 25, 2006, 07:43:27 AM
I am new to tube amplifier operating so please forgive me if this is normal but... When I have my LK-450 in the Standby mode I have good rx but, when I switch it to the Operating position, my rx drops way down. The amp has good output and otherwise tunes and operates flawlessly.

Is this normal or, is it some type of mechanical or Operator function?

Thanks,
Mark K0XXX
14  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / AL-80 Schematic Needed on: January 04, 2006, 10:34:14 AM
I'm in need of a schematic for the original Ameritron AL-80 (pre AL-80A). An electronic version would be fine but I'd be happy to cover the cost of copying and mailing a copy.

Thanks and 73!
