WPE0BO waaay back when. I saved my certificate but it got lost in my last move. I also was contributor to the shortwave editor Hank Bennett W2PNA and still have a thank you post card from him dated Jan 3-1960.

They've managed to survive in the tough Twin City area. Others didn't. Electronic Center, PAL Electronics, TNT Radio all fell by the wayside. Too many people go into Radio City, play with the radios, and then go online to avoid the sales tax. I've been a sporadic customer myself but always treated well there.

I've got a dipole 8 feet high hidden under my 2nd story deck. When the band is open, I work all over the US but mainly into the SE states. My MJF 9406X with about 10 watts output is a nice little inexpensive way to enjoy 6 meters.

I've had some good results with my MFJ 9406X(10 watts maybe) and a simple dipole mounted 8 feet in the air under my 2nd story deck. When the band opens, I can communicate hundreds of miles. When I am in the shack, I have either the MFJ or my Icom R75 idling away on the calling frequency. Mostly just static, but when the band pops open, I'm working stations.

The latest issue of QST has a few lines of text and some pictures of MFJ employees constructing products. I've got a couple of MFJ products that work okay so I have no gripe. Yet.

On a trip to Chicago, I tried multiple times to get some directions on 2 meter repeaters. No answers. Not one. Switched over to channel 19 on a handheld CB and got plenty of help. I always carry the CB when I'm on a trip. Yes, you hear some strange stuff on 11 meters but no worse than 75 meters on a weekend night.

I managed 26 contacts with my 9 watts MFJ 9406 with a dipole at 8 feet. Had a pipeline to the Southeast late in the afternoon. Lots of big guns on 6 but I managed to bag a few of them.

Lots of activity around 1400 CDT here in Minneapolis but then the bottom dropped out. Not much on 2m SSB but I have very modest station so that might be part of it.

I'm trying to get on 6 meters fairly inexpensively so I have been doing a bit of research on limited space antennas. After reading tons of reviews here and elsewhere, I decided to order a 50 mhz antenna from Par. An email to them resulted in this message.
<quote> PLEASE NOTE: We have suspended Omniangle production indefinitely while we tend to our military and aerospace clients<quote>
A ham callsign is listed on the website. The site still has info on various amateur antennas but they are apparently not available. They also suggested in the email to buy one from M2 and said any others are no good.
Guess I'll keep shopping.

i have the FTM 10R and am very disappointed in it. Intermod is terrible and I have other issues with it also. Tough(For me anyway) to program it and can't switch from memories to VFO most of the time. There is a Yahoo group for the FTM and I read there that the bluetooth is kind of a joke also. I haven't used bluetooth so I don't know personally. AM broadcast is not reliable in it although FM broadcast is okay. I'll probably dump it at the next hamfest.

I ordered online for an antenna tuner. The order was placed on the weekend and I received a notice that it was backordered. Then the next day, on Monday afternoon, I received notice that it was being shipped. Arrived 4 days later. I'm happy. Price was $10 less than anywhere else I could find online. Shipping was $10 so I guess I saved the amount of shipping from another vendor.
