76  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / RE: New Narrow Band Requirement Question? on: December 06, 2012, 10:38:11 AM
MORE repeaters with antennas on the back fence?  We don't use the ones we have.
77  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: Ameritron AL-82 on: December 05, 2012, 10:29:05 AM
And thus we constantly hear the new breed running "15 hundret" watts to talk to a guy in the next state.

Try Parts Express.com
79  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: Do solid state amps need be push-pull? on: December 05, 2012, 10:00:42 AM
Isn't "CW bandwidth" a problem with REAL low frequency systems of the type the Navy used.
80  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / RE: Voltage doubler for filament supply? on: December 05, 2012, 09:53:36 AM
I hope that switcher is rf quiet and not subject to rfi itself.  Lotta junctions in a switcher. You are feeding a high power RF amp, not a stereo.
81  eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / RE: Ladder Line question on: December 04, 2012, 10:14:53 AM
I run 300 ohm twin lead through a hole which carries two RG 8 leads and a rotor cable.  The 100 foot flat top to which it is  connected works on 80 through 10, including 60 meters.  So far, a pair of 3-500s amp  hasn't caused any problems.  I don't think 200 watts will cause you a problem.  My exciter runs that much.
82  eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / RE: Covenants Enforced By The City on: December 04, 2012, 10:05:44 AM
What's the zoning for the area, and is there an ordinance regarding building heights?  The city may have no interest in private agreements contained in deeds, but they WILL enforce height limits contained in zoning laws if they conclude they apply  to an "antenna structure".   Keep in mind that realtors are a lot like used car salesman Smiley.
83  eHam Forums / RFI / EMI / RE: RFI from battery charger on: December 04, 2012, 09:55:10 AM
Why not buy a 12 analog supply and crank up the regulator to qbout 14.2.  That ought to keep the battery happy and not make a lot of noise.
84  eHam Forums / QRP / RE: Feeding an inverted L on: December 03, 2012, 08:49:46 AM
THe Radio Shack brown stuff will handle close to a KW without problems, I run mine through a hole in which there are  also two runs of RG 8 and a rotor cable.  The tuner matches a 100 foot long dipole with ease on 80 through 10, including 60.  I made the dipole myself, so it doesn't have a brand name Smiley .
85  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Hustler G7-144 - How tall is the old G7-144 7' 9'? on: November 07, 2012, 11:01:53 AM
It's not all there, it should have two fibreglass phase reversal elements.  I don't see how what you have will show proper swr on 2 meters.  Maybe 10 or six.  There is a matching network  in the base.  Hope it wasn't an "as is no way to test it" Epay deal.
86  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Damn this Modern Stuff is Good! on: October 22, 2012, 09:29:25 AM
My 25 year old  stainless Heuer needs a battery about once in five years, and still looks good.  A plastic watch is a plastic watch.
87  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: How much CB is still out there? on: October 22, 2012, 09:25:52 AM
I have heard about the move to FRS by the trucking industry but don't seem to hear anything in southern New England.  I'd like to put the channels used into a scanner and use the activity to get some insight on UHF simplex propagation.  Is there a "channel 19" on FRS?
88  eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / RE: HQ-160 suddenly quiet on: September 14, 2012, 07:38:51 AM
Does it hear the calibrator signal?  Find out where THAT is injected.
89  eHam Forums / SWL (Shortwave Listening) / RE: HOA caught me! Any users using a AOR LA390 loop? on: September 03, 2012, 08:17:31 AM
I'd use a balun on the loop for noise reduction.
90  eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: Expert Electronics of Russia (SunSDR2) in violation of the GPL on: July 08, 2012, 07:45:39 AM
Once again, wwe fail to distinguish between the Russian Government and the Russian people.  We  may not like the Russian Government, but I don't see this Russian company in the same light as the Government.
