1  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / RE: Yaesu vx-5r issue. Dealing with power-on prob. on: February 14, 2010, 10:53:58 AM
I realize your post is a bit dated and you may not even have your vx-5r anymore. If this is the case then you can disregard my info.
I have a vx-5r with the same issue and the there is a way to deal with this. When it's plugged in to your charger and power is off,it should display either "now charging" or "charge complete". Gently but quickly push the power button repeatedly while watching the display. When your vx-5r tries to turn on then your display will blank out. Do this again and hold down the power button for about 1/2 sec.until radio turns on.I have been using this method for about 2 years now.
Resetting the cpu in mine does not cure the problem in mine as others have suggested.
I hope this helps.

Charlie I've read most of your posts and I just have to ask,ARE you really this uneducated or are you just pulling our leg here? You can't possibly be stupid enough to post the crap that you have, right? OR are you?
Do you suffer from some disorder,if so then I can empathize with you. Otherwise,STOP trying to fire people up here and just get a life,ok?
IF you are lacking a true understanding of what's posted here then just STOP posting for everyone's sake and your dignity!

3  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / RE: Yaesu VX-5R Repair - Sudden Loss of Reception on: December 26, 2009, 08:52:19 PM
IS the SMA antenna connector loose at all? If this has happened, then you have severed the small copper lead which transfers rf to the SMA. I had this happen 3 years ago to my now still working vx-5r and with much care and tlc this problem can be repaired with a fine tip low wattage soldering pencil and the proper tool to tighten the ring nut around the SMA.
Good luck and 73's!

There is also a product sold by public safety equipment dealers used to buff out scratches and clean the lexan lenses on emergency vehicle lighting. I'm told it works very well on radio displays, although I don't recall the brand name. www.galls.com has it available.

5  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / RE: Wouxun KG-UVD1 question about freq range on: December 26, 2009, 07:42:40 PM
Maybe everyone should keep in mind that these radios are marketed outside the u.s. so export laws would be the main reason to be concerned. The Fcc has no jurisdiction in china. These are also marketed to the USA under the brand name of "DB Andy" with slightly different features and promoted as a commercial dual band talkie.
There are already a lot of these radios in operation here, and they actually sound pretty good.

6  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / RE: Jetstream JT220M 220Mhz Radio Opinions? on: December 25, 2009, 03:10:29 PM
I have a couple friends who bought and like the Jetstream 220 rig,and I may buy it also. My biggest concern with it is the fact that it does not have a large enough heat sink for a radio with a 50watt p.a. nor does it have a fan either. Without either of these I'm afraid too much high power use would cook the amp,but I suppose after the warranty was up I could retro-fit a small muffin fan or just stick to low power as usual.

Mr. baker maybe you should get hooked on phonics and learn how to spell BEFORE you start worrying about how to use an amplifier? YOU my friend, have much to learn first!

[The quote that got this thread going]

"I am an Extra class ham. There is no f***ing way that I would say a word about anybody operating WTF ever they want too. As long as they stay away from 10m, I could give a s**t less. I still play the high power 11m thing. I have for 15 years without any problems. Dips**t cops don't know a fuc**ng thing about radio, so they stay out of it. 226 High Desert mobile rockin' these 32 pills around Sin City, NV, just got DOWN!"

[END of quote that got this going]

Whoever this was that urinated on your cheerios, I COMMEND him (except for the foul language"!!!)

I've been a liscensed ham since 1990. Not that this matters to me, but it might to some disturbed person.
I've also been a CBer since 1965, under dad's liscense,KKP-0907 -- then under my own (KAFG9830). This will probably matter to the same whackos who think the longer you have something, the better it gits...Newz-flash; THIS AINT WINE,Y'ALL!
And we are not band cops! CB is not part of the amateur bands anyhow. "Freebanders", unliscensed radio broacasters ("Pirates") and those using the stinking telephone to set up bank robbery are ALL going afoul of FCC rules and regulations!

My advice to my fellow hams is to enjoy your privlages as assigned, keeping in mind human nature and putting-up with pileups and banal interence (not malicious, of course that's different).
Those of you who find this suggestion "difficult" need to get a life, or some sort of psychiatric assistance. Life is simply way too short for one group of us "RF junkies" combatting another over turf.
Th FCC may declare (as they have indeed done durring wartime in the past), SHUT THE HAM BANDS DOWN. However, the war-powers act is no longer the only law that can restrict your communications... Having stated that;
You (and any global government) are POWERLESS to shut down the citizens band!!! Oh, you may try,and with new-found allies within the administration, you might even pass dictates... But to think that any such effort would succeed, is a wannanbe band-cop's illusion -- a wild dream!
You are powerless over the American citizen when he gets mad. Try us if you dare! Just beware the obligatory American pitchforks and baseball bats.

Oh,one foggy new year's eve a lone individual set out on a mission! Well equipped and dressed for stealth,he intended to inflict harm on many a radios health!
Dressed in black, carrying a small sack he crept into yards and many back alleys!
One by one the amplifiers fell silent, til' only a hiss was heard for miles!
Tactics were many, tools were few! He set out with a list and knew what to do!
110v.outside outlets quickly spliced to ends of coax!
Many chunks cut from many a feedline, tossed into nearby garden beds!
Motion lights seemed strangely to fail, while watchdogs wagged their tail.
Needless to say the very next day when scofflaws fired up,the signals were down! "Ya'll not makin' the trip" they all would say with no clue as to how much they will have to pay! Roll Eyes

I guess the moral here is...The fcc is not always needed to make a difference!
9  eHam Forums / Misc / Would modding this amp be legal ? on: August 16, 2009, 01:08:54 PM
NONE of the above mentioned radios were ever cb's to begin with! These are poorly manufactured ham rigs which were designed to modify illegally for cb use! Most hams I know would not grace their station with these, myself included! Although they would make a great doorstop or boat anchor, lol!

10  eHam Forums / Misc / Need help with a car stereo in a 1994 Saab 900 !!! on: August 14, 2009, 11:44:49 PM
Thanks for the replies. Saab being a swedish made company is a little quirky,in that they don't provide clear diagrams or info. which would make sense to the normal person, lol! They tend  to use strange color codes and combos for different functions which is making this project quite a challenge! I can't find the needed adapter kit compatible with the car either! It must be a swedish thing.

11  eHam Forums / Misc / Need help with a car stereo in a 1994 Saab 900 !!! on: August 14, 2009, 01:06:29 PM
Don't know if this is a good place to post this, but Couldn't see why not.
I have a 1994 Saab 900 car with a factory installed Clarion car stereo Model# PU-9716A which I can not get the security code for,as it was bought used.
So I am attempting to change out the stereo, and was wondering if anyone had color codes for the stock stereo harness? All I can tell you at this point is there are two rectangular connectors, with 8 pins each protruding from a double-din opening.
I have already been to clarion's and Saab's site,so that's a wash! I don't want to rip the panels out to trace out the wires,soooo...please help if you can?
Thanks bunches!!

12  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / Can I use a car window mount antenna indoors? on: July 05, 2009, 04:36:42 PM
I used to use a diamond X50A inside in an apartment which is a dual band base antenna, and it worked great! The 5'6" height will fit anywhere, plus it has some gain as well.

It's amazing what bands above 50mhz. you can operate on with a mag.mount on a baking pan tossed upon top of a bookcase!
