17  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: 3W6C Con Co-Vietnam on: April 28, 2010, 06:24:28 AM
i managed to snap this one up on the 17th i think it was. just doing the usual quick dial around 15m in the morning hearing the JA's 9+ing into VK land and found him running split. i was listening to him call a couple times thinking to my self, do i wanna give this one a shot? knowing my luck he would disappear by the time i spin the 4 element around.
No one had come back to him so i fired up just on the dipole and put in a call (if not just for the reassurance that his radio is working) and seemed to work him with ease. 15m was fantastic.

I quickly jumped on the DX cluster and put him on there and with in min it was packed with all sorts of mayhem.

I haven't looked on line for any log to see it confirmed but he hand no trouble with my callsign or anything so one can only hope. Fingers crossed a QSL card some time but until then its just pencilled in the log book.
18  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / RE: FT-950 Transmit Toggling in HRD? on: April 22, 2010, 10:16:08 PM
Did you have any luck with that PTT button? I have noticed that my v4 does it as well.i too use a foot switch but would be nice to have the option to tx with the click of the button, and also be able to stop it as well lol. i was originally using v5 with also has the antenna selection button which the v4 doesnt but for the life of me i couldnt get the DX cluster working on it so i went back to v4.
19  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / RE: Kenwood TS-480 out of band trans mod on: January 09, 2010, 12:48:06 AM
Lots of people do the "MARS" mod to there ham radio's. why would it be such an issue.

whats that famous saying? those without sin may cast the first stone.

I dont see what the big problem is.

Back to the original question, sorry mate you may not find the right answer here. (some people may be a bit reluctant to give you the information because they feel it is wrong or immoral for some reason) but my suggestion would be dont give up "google'ing" it. Infact if you type in "kenwood ts 480 MARS mod" you WILL find it about the 3rd in the list will be very helpful Smiley Mod away. experimenting is what Ham radio is all about.

What would be required for this to work?

Thanks.

"One can always donate their used radio"

Doesnt this mean someone will be getting 2nd hand gear? defeats your argument.

as the years pass by technology becomes better and people upgrade equipment.. circle of radio life.
22  eHam Forums / Misc / KD8HJQ - Bad seller on: November 07, 2009, 02:46:40 AM
But then what happens if you want to upgrade? you throw you couple thousand dollar radio gear in the bin?

its like the whole ebay thing, unless you can hold it in your hot little hands and see it for your self then your taking a chance. unfortunaly this story didnt turn out so well for the buyer.
23  eHam Forums / Misc / KD8HJQ - Bad seller on: November 06, 2009, 04:47:47 AM
Well it looks like its in pretty sh1t condition and i would not be at all impressed if i purchased a "working" item and it looked like that. i dont blame him for not wanting to plug it in. fear of the thing having some serious issues.

in the photo's it appears to have had some major water/dew in there. im with the purchaser on this one. if the seller didnt really want to shaft someone he would have refunded the money as the product is in poor condition. weather its a "good" or "bad" amp doesnt mean crap. if you are selling dodgy items like that then expect to be bagged out!
24  eHam Forums / Misc / Would you.... on: November 05, 2009, 02:26:50 AM
you guys stress too much and must have some serious issues.

"Quote - Let's leave law enforcement to those who are trained and paid to do it. " at the begining it said "if you were trained..

here in Australia the "FCC" is Called ACMA (australian communications and media aurthority)
when they have enough evidence to warrant a search of someones house accompanying them are the boys in blue with the search warrent. they stand around and make sure the searchee is not going to do anything stupid. they usually feel stupid because they have been caught.

As for bombs being hidden in radio's to blow up in the face of an inspector.. i think id rather take a couple hundred or even couple thousand dollar fine over a life prison term.

I know a couple of Radio inspectors in west aust and they usually have more important thing to do then worry about the clown band but when they do have to they make sure they have enough evidence to rain hell on the person. and i dont think any of them have had any issues with discruntled customers.

As my answer. i sure would. if i was given the correct training req (even tho as a tech i probably have a good idea as to wat to look for)

we also have very strict gun laws so i dont think someone poking a gun in your face would be too much of a problem. The inspections are always well organised and the culpret would have no idea it was about to go down so setting any booby traps would probably be out of the question too.

26  eHam Forums / Misc / why do some HAMS poormouth cbers??? on: November 02, 2009, 05:53:51 AM
i dont think i could miss spell so many words even if i tried.

Hams cant speak around the world on a "walkie" (hand held radio for those who dont speak cb'er)

well infact around the world communications is what we do best. your digging your self a rather big hole. i once heard your mate jeff say the world was flat.. will you belive him?

people make fun of CB'ers because they bring it on them selfs.. i mean take a read back though some of the stuff you have said..
27  eHam Forums / Misc / how to get break on HAM chanel please!!! on: November 02, 2009, 05:44:04 AM
well you will have to sit and pass your exam first before you even use the Amateur allocated frequencies.

you may or may not get a choice of a call sign, i dont think you can get a call with that many letters im not sure. but first thing first. learn about the hobby and Listen Listen Listen. that is most important. understand how people use the radio, how people talk and what certain things mean before you get on the radio and make your self sound like a silly bugga.
you dont need to be a super technician but you will need a basic understanding of radio comms and how to use one properly. i cant stress enough about dropping the CB act. if you act like a tool you will be treated like one. Ham radio is the same but ALOT differant compaired to CB radio.
28  eHam Forums / Misc / how to get break on HAM chanel please!!! on: November 01, 2009, 05:44:20 AM
.. and your seriously going to become (or try) a Ham radio operator?

It sounds like you may have lived a few to many years in CB land. Here in Australia it is a big No No for a CB'er to even come on and start talking on the 10m band.

most hard core CB'ers here tend to hang around the 27.555 area which is out of the band of CB (11m) and not quiet 10m band.

what the guy was asking you was what is your Ham Call sign. the one you are issued once you pass the exams. If you do not hold one or are unsure what they are talking about i would spend more time reading propper Ham Training documentaion.
One thing they introduced as part of the Exams here is a practical exam. you MUST be able to correctly set up from scratch a basic station and they do "dummy" conversations where you must use correct radio protocol and conduct a conversation with a licensed user (who usually sits in the room next door)

I wouldnt take everything you here from your mate seriously.
for the sake of answering your original question i use my callsign in between the conversation that gives the other operators an idea as to who i am.
29  eHam Forums / Misc / why do some HAMS poormouth cbers??? on: November 01, 2009, 03:58:14 AM
... oh that gave me a bit of a chuckle.

Altho they do have a point, alot of "CB'ers" become Hams and i know here Down under they have changed alot of rules and licenses to attract more CB'ers to the land of Amateur radio, which is where all the fun really is.

On the other hand alot of CB'ers do bring it on them selfs. transmitting on bands in which they are not yet lic for, or running rediculous amounts or power or even just giving radio comms a bad name.

you should maybe treat the hobby with a bit more respect. Amateurs and CB'ers alike.
30  eHam Forums / Elmers / Should I go after K6ON? on: August 13, 2009, 06:30:08 AM
"Washington 5 Purchase Order"... sounds good Smiley

I really enjoy everyones version of the Phonetic alphabet. i have noticed here Down Under we dont tend to veer away from the original to much, but some U.S. operators have some really beauties.
Then there are others that use words that just make it harder and more confusing more then anything.
