31  eHam Forums / Elmers / So much noise on my HF rig. Why? Can I fix it? on: August 13, 2009, 06:01:10 AM
40M always seems to be bad but one major problem i have found is my plasma screen TV. HF is almost unusable when it is on.

Also anyone local running a computer network with Cat5 type cable is a big culprate of HF noise.

just a couple things iv had problems with.

Good luck
32  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / RCI-2950 : beep on turning-on, but not working on: August 03, 2009, 11:52:18 PM
Getting back on track instead of having meaningless arguements about weather the radio is legal or not in the US.. do keep in mind not everyone is located in the USA and as mentioned before this model radio is very legal in other places around the world.

I myself have one i use for 10m monitoring while using the FT950 to do the real work but have made a few contacts with it.

the poor guy just asked for some help not to be hassled.

I have found this site to be handy for problems with the 2950, i hope it helps. http://www.cbtricks.com/radios/rci/rci_2950/index.htm

34  eHam Forums / Elmers / Best way to disconnect antennas when not in use? on: July 22, 2009, 05:53:38 AM
after living in my new house for about 5mths my vertical took a direct hit and killed my radio.

I have since pulled down the tower and about to install the new one with ALOT more grounding etc. the antenna, coax and radio become scrap.

and i WILL be disconnecting all antenna's during storms no matter what. after one hit things start to get expensive (all over again replacing gear)

I dont see the harm in being cautious. if its not connecte to anything it cant break it.
35  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / FT 757GX RX fail on: July 18, 2009, 10:47:45 PM
Thanks for the details, i will go through it and try to bring it back to life.

I just needed a bit of guidence, and what better place when your all out of ideas.

It worked so well when i had used it. i havent been very active but never had a problem getting contacts with it. would be a shame to put it in the "spares" pile.

No not this time, but i do admit it has caught me out once before, thats one of the first things i checked Smiley
37  eHam Forums / RFI / EMI / Pioneer Plasma TV on: July 17, 2009, 11:58:42 PM
I have an NEC 50inch plasma screen and sure enough from about 15Mhz down hf is almost unusable when the TV is turned on.

Had i known about this before i got the TV i surely would not have been looking at Plasma's.

Oh well. i hope there is some sort of fix to the issue. im hoping the new tower i an about to put will get my antenna's far enough away from it to work HF.
38  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / FT 757GX RX fail on: July 17, 2009, 11:13:56 PM
I have a FT757GX and when it is powered up the signal meter shoots right across to the far right. I have checked the Globe that protects the RX side and it seems ok, but it wont Recieve anything.

Im suspecting it as had a spike or something and the radio has spat the dummy. it would be nice to get it going again as i have had it a while and had no problems (appart from this) with it.
