1  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Indoors: Diamond X-50 or Larsen NMO 2/70? on: September 21, 2009, 03:14:29 PM
I am setting up an FT-7900R for use in my shack.  I have several repeaters within 10 miles.  For repeater use, would I be better off with a Diamond X-50 2m/440 or a Larsen NMO 2/70 (or what)?  The antenna can be mounted in my attic near a window or in the shack room (in house ground level) above the cabinet.
2  eHam Forums / Elmers / FP1030A power supply & multiple radios on: September 19, 2009, 04:04:29 PM
Can I run two radios off the Yaesu FP1030A power supply?  The instructions say that the screw-on terminal can handle up to 25 amps, so I am assuming that means total amps.  Any advice?  Thanks.

My wife isn't comfortable letting someone finish a sentence before she gets to speak again.
4  eHam Forums / Site Talk / Specific process for changing callsign? on: September 10, 2009, 04:48:42 PM
I just changed my callsign (vanity). The FAQ about changing my profile callsign is nebulous.  It says to contact someone, but no contact is apparent.  Need better transparency on this issue?  Why is it so mysterious?
5  eHam Forums / Elmers / Home outlets buzz when transmitting on: September 08, 2009, 02:10:29 AM
OK.  I'll see about replacing the GFCI outlets and look into some type of "stealth" antenna.

Well, my buzzing outlet IS a GFCI outlet, so I guess that I will begin by checking my grounding.  My HOA won't even allow a flagpole in the back yard. Thanks for the replies.

Any ideas as to what might cause an electrical outlet on the other side of the house to buzz/vibrate when I transmit?  I am transmitting at 100 watts through a multi-band dipole mounted in the attic. Thanks.
8  eHam Forums / Elmers / MFJ-949E doesn't do anything on: September 04, 2009, 03:09:14 PM
I just finished hooking up my multi-band dipole and running about 80 feet of LMR-400 (I know. I should have used ladder) to my new FT-950.  I am attempting to use the external (MFJ-949E) tuner.  The instructions are extremely vague, but I adjusted the knobs to the recommended band settings and no matter what I do, I get no reflections on either the front or back meter dials. The instructions said something about bringing up the power, but I have no "power" to bring up (that I am aware of).  Also, after hooking up the dipole (in attic), I can't hear anything but noise. Any ideas?
9  eHam Forums / Elmers / Wire hookup to Power Supply on: August 23, 2009, 05:27:19 PM
Thank you all for the advice.  I'll get a crimping tool and some connectors.
10  eHam Forums / Elmers / Wire hookup to Power Supply on: August 23, 2009, 08:41:24 AM
I am connecting my FT-950 to a Yaesu FP-1030A power supply.  I am not sure about how the wires hook onto the power supply.  Do I wrap the bare ends around the posts on the power supply, then just tighten the knobs or is there some way of doing it where the wires are not exposed?  Thanks.
11  eHam Forums / Elmers / Adding 15' of LMR-400 antenna lead on: August 22, 2009, 11:10:12 AM
OK. Thanks for the info.  I will add a second string and seal it with coax sealer.
12  eHam Forums / Elmers / Adding 15' of LMR-400 antenna lead on: August 22, 2009, 06:45:33 AM
I have a 75 foot roll of LMR-400 and need to go about 90 feet with it.  Will it cause any problems if I screw in a 15-20' length of coax.  The total length is going from a multi-band dipole to a FT-950 (100 watts max)and I have both an internal and external antenna tuner. Thanks.
