I am using a UV-3R for a Fox hunt transmitter. I coupled it to an Arduino controller. I key the PTT through an optical isolator. The arduino generates a 600Hz tone for MCW. Seems to work really well.i

eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / Honda CRV Antenna

I want to install 144/440 rig in my 2012 Honda CRV. I was thinking of mounting the antenna on the top of the rear hatch. That would place the ham antenna less than 2 feet from the AM/FM radio antenna and the mobile rig puts out 45 watts. I am worried about damaging the AM/FM radio. Should I find another place for the ham antenna?

Just wondering why you are bothering to change the tube? 572Bs are available and not expensive. They are rugged - I built my SB200 in 1968 and still has the original tubes. The power supply will limit you power output. Seems like a lot of work for little gain.
Just curious.

You might join the Yahoo groups for your target rigs. Ask if someone in your area would let you take a test drive. Nothing like hands on experience.
I am very impressed with Elecraft. They seem very responsive to their users. I have a KX3 that had an intermittent microphone. I called support, they had me try a few things, and then sent me a new mic and mic connector. No questions asked. They have an upgrade kit for the keyer paddles and are sending it to users FREE.
I have an IC756Pro3. I had the Inrad roofing filter installed. It made a tremendous difference. The receiver is light years better. A cheaper alternative to a new rig.

I will also put in good word for Elecraft. I recently bought a KX3 portable transceiver kit. My first Elecraft radio. A great rig but that's another story. Occasionally, I would have no audio on SSB. I would start to investigate and the audio would come back. I emailed Elecraft - they had me check some things and then they set me a new mic and a new mic connector. No questions - no hassle. Great service.

I just latched onto a TL-922A. It came with a bunch of mods packaged by AG6K that need to be installed. Anybody have any experience with these mods? One mod is for QSK using vacuum relays. Anyone have any pictures of this mod?

The Burlington County Radio Club is in the process of reviving the NJ QSO Party for 2012. We would be willing to partner with another club. We are also looking for ways to encourage participation - especially from NJ. You thoughts and ideas are appreciated. Also your participation. The NJQP website is njqp.hamshack.info and the email njqp@comcast.net. 73, Bob K2QPN

The NJ QSO Party no longer has a sponsor. My club is thinking about picking up the responsibility for the contest. We want to keep the contest going but we are not a big club and don't want to be overwhelmed. We are looking for input about the amount of effort required and the expense. We are also looking for any software that might automate the process of receiving, validating and scoring. Any input would be appreciated.

QRP DXCC is a noble goal. It takes persistence and patience. I decided to try for QRP DXCC during the bottom of the last sun spot cycle. The bands were dead and I was bored. It took me about a year but I did it - all on CW. I used a PFR-3 for QRPKits and a Hustler 6BTV ground mounted vertical. My longest contact was with VQ9RD on 40 CW. I could barely hear him but he answered me on the first call. Today, when there is nothing new on for the QRO log I look for new QRP countries.

W2JUG was issued to Wally Rohlfing in the late 1950's. He was my buddy. Wally died in an auto accident. Our club, the West Jersey Radio Amateurs, acquired the call and used it as our club call for many years. Although WJRA is defunct, there a few old WJRA members still around. If you want I might be able to help you figure out who the owner is. 73, Bob Nelson K2QPN Burlington, NJ k2qpn@arrl.net
