You didn't post a link to the HRD form you are talking about.

Your other link goes to a Yahoo page that requires a password.

The FT-857d works correctly on 60m by all accounts I can find. What are you saying the problem is?

I use the CT-62 cable and FTBasicMMO software and it works great.

I read-out and exported the radio memories as CSV, opened and added new data in Excel, and re-uploaded the data.  Much easier than fiddling with the knob!

Yes - the speaker and headphone audio is muted during CAT tuning, yielding choppy audio.

Again, use the mini-DIN Data jack to get proper audio.  It works, really.  Verified from my own personal experience.

The bigger issue with satellite is the inability for the sat-tracking program to set both VFO-A and B, so when you press the mic button you don't get doppler-corrected transmit.

Have not heard of the 60m issue. do you have a link?

Yep, quite aware. Would love to get lots of replies so I can determine a little about how much variability there is in this population.
65  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / Help me fix FT-857D.... Need values from Svc menu on: February 26, 2010, 03:43:39 PM
Recently I experienced a malfunction with my FT-857D S-Meter.

I would like to make sure the service menu values for SSB-FS and SSB-S9 are reasonable.

If you own a recent FT-857D (2008 or later), can you

* Power off

* Hold down A,B,C and power on.

* Dial to "ADJUST No-007" SSB-S9 and 008 SSB-FS and record those values.

* Power off and back on to reset.

* Post values here

Thank you very much in advance!

N8EKT,

What part of their sale to, or use by amateurs is illegal?  Besides the obvious transmission out of band while operating?

Certification is only required for HF amplifiers in the amateur service by §97.315, and even then:

§97.315 (b) The requirement...does not apply if one or more of the following conditions are met: ... (3) The amplifier is sold to an amateur radio operator or to a dealer, the amplifier is purchased in used condition by a dealer, or the amplifier is sold to an amateur radio operator for use at that operator's station.

http://www.arrl.org/tis/info/part15.html#Authorization :

"Amateur Radio transmitters do not require type acceptance although external HF power amplifiers and kits do require type acceptance."

re: the cb comment.... This site is in SORE, SORE need of moderation and meta-moderation features so that people with lots to contribute will be recognized as such.

My current ideal prototype of a forum is stackoverflow.com .

I did perform a "master reset" on the rig - although I guess the service trim adjustments must persist past this reset - or you'd have a very poorly working radio after reset.

I will check service menu settings and report back.
69  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: $5000 Budget, New Club, What would you get? on: February 05, 2010, 02:32:12 PM
With these issues raised, perhaps some club leaders have some good suggestions on how to use the $5000 to setup an appropriate CLUB MANAGEMENT structure and attract local elmers and plan for future fundraising.

It seems like getting that under the belt will lead to long-term results, compared to the short-term results of buying a radio and plugging it in.

Typical eham replies.

Why don't you guys throw him a bone, assume he's not malicious, and if you are concerned about regs, paste a link to the proper section of the regs.  That would be a helpful response.

This site is in sore need of moderation and metamoderation as seen on StackOverflow.com

The nulling receiver isn't an audio-stage solution is it?

TO continue,

The softrock receivers

* Can be bought as kits to teach some assembly skills and are cheap enough ($15!) to have a whole class assemble them and "take them home".

* Are on the cutting edge of software-based radio - a wide open area for experimentation and learning.

* Promote deep knowledge of modes, modulation bandwidth, etc... as all of these things are directly visible on the screen.

* Waterfall display looks like something from "the matrix"!

* Can reliably receive signals in an active part of the band - There's nothing as off-putting as never hearing anything!
73  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: $5000 Budget, New Club, What would you get? on: February 05, 2010, 11:42:57 AM
A decent PC with 2 or 3 192khz sounds cards in it, and Softrock receivers for 80m, 40m, and 20m.  This will allow 24-hour continuous monitoring of the popular digital band segments if desired, and it's so cheap (Cheap if have a PC on the list anyway)

A few of those running with PowerSDR is an impressive display to look at, and there's always "text messaging" activity going on.
74  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: AC-to-AC transformer on: February 05, 2010, 11:38:44 AM
You are thinking of switching from a DC Linear supply to a DC Switching supply. The Linear supply regulates the DC voltage/current continuously, while a switching supply "chops" the AC input to average it out to a lower voltage...

Things are much simpler for AC-to-AC. Just a magentic core and coils of wire. No electronics needed to regulate and filter, just match voltage and make sure the new one is big enough.
