eHam Forums / Digital / RE: JT65-HF (Not Logged in..) ???

I have Enable RB and PSKR, and logged into http://jt65.w6cqz.org. JT65-HF still shows I'm not logged in, and PSK Reporter doesn't show my node when I'm using another browser instance that I'm not logged into. I'm not using Ham Radio Deluxe, should I be? Why am I still showing "Not logged in" ? thanks in advance. You do NOT need to be a member of LoTW to use PSK Reporter as far as I know. I assume that you have started JT65. Have you set a frequency in the frequency window (since you said you're not using HRD) or does it still read "0". If it reads "0", you cannot post to PSK Reporter. Right click on it (if memory serves me correctly) and set the frequency you are tuned to. That should start allowing your posts to show up. Or you can use OmniRig or HRD, have JT65-HF connected and read the QRG from those, and you'll be good to go too. 73 Dave K3DCW

The only thing I could think of here, assuming all else is equal (antenna pointing the same way, same power levels, same everything else on BOTH ENDS of the QSO) is the audio frequency in use.
Perhaps your son was low in the audio range, down around +500 or so, and you were much higher +1000, +1500, etc. If the rig's audio is not quite linear, or if the soundcard is a cheap one with some noise, then it COULD generate some extra "noise" in the transmitted signal if everything isn't smooth across the spectrum...or if the audio processor on the rig is left on, you could be having some problems.
Just a guess as unless you can say that EVERYTHING is exactly equal, it is hard to know for sure.
Or, it could just be that the "gentleman" has something against your son.

The rule for "no splatter" is very simple:
. . . Adjust the TX audio drive, using the computer-resident software and/or the interface, so the rig shows _no_ ALC action on transmit.
That works for just about every rig, and every soundcard / interface.
And -- until you have things set up and stable -- _ask_ whether you have any visible sidebands on PSK31. The answer should be "no".
. Charles
This is NOT the way to adjust for the K3. If you do, you'll end up with receiver ALC pumping as it tries to adjust to a signal that is too low. Check out http://www.w7ay.net/site/Technical/K3/Content/digital.html for the info on properly setting the K3's ALC level.....4 or 5 bars of ALC action is ESSENTIAL for clean signal work. Computer audio (USB Audio CODEC) should be set for FULL. The "Line" volume should be to a mid-level for initial testing (mine is set at 45). Adjust the audio out on the SignalLink until you see the appropriate amount of ALC action. The K3 has a VERY clean AFSK mode, if everything is set right. 73 Dave K3DCW

I suspect the software will be ready in two weeks or so and I am looking for beta testers. Please feel free to PM me if you wish to participate. Tom

Go to the "Configure" menu, "Waterfall", FFT Processing sub-tab.
At the bottom is the "Waterfall height in pixels" option. Default is 125. Min is 100, max is 160. Hit "save" and then quit the program and restart to get the new height.

Don, This is configurable in your configuration options. Please read carefully
1) Under "Configure", "UI", General"....do you have the selections under "Exit Prompts" checked...."Prompt to save Configuration", "Prompt to save log", "Prompt to save macro file"? If not, then Fldigi will not prompt you to save anything and when you restart, your configurations will be back to normal.
2) As addressed in the "Exit Prompts" section in Fldigi, if you use CMD+Q or the close button at the top of the window, these dialogs will NOT show up. They only appear if you use the "File", "Exit" option.
3) On my setup on OS X, if I select "Configure" and then make a change, I can select "Save" at the bottom of every window, or select "Save Config" at the bottom of the "Configure" menu. In neither case do I get a dialog asking for confirmation of where to save the changes...it just saves them. HOWEVER, if I have the options selected from paragraph 1 (Exit Prompts) AND I go to "File", "Exit", then the prompts DO show up.
I honestly think that this isn't a difference in OS X versions, it is a difference in configuration settings that you are overlooking. If you read my paragraph 1 and you select those options, AND you use the "File", "Exit", you should get what you want. As far back as I can remember (at least to Leopard), this is the way Fldigi on OS X has worked.
Hope this is of help

I don't care what anyone has to say, PayPal is the way to go. It's saved my behind several times.
Yes, PayPal is a great way to go as long as you have your documentation and you follow a few simple rules; basically insure the shipment & track the shipment with delivery confirmation. Then, keep that information available for several months in case something comes back to bite you. In the end, I don't know if PayPal will simply absorb the loss on this or whether they'll push back on the credit card company with the documentation I provided. I don't care whether Dick's credit card company refunds his money (and he gets the microKeyer II for free) or not. Either way, it doesn't matter to me; I'm off the hook because of the documentation and PayPal's service agreement. 73 Dave K3DCW

In November 2012, I placed an ad on QRZ selling a microHam microKeyer II. Dick Martin, WW4NC, responded quickly and after severals emails negotiating prices, he quickly sent payment via PayPal (at my request). I shipped the microKeyer II the next day with good packaging, full insurance, and tracking. Dick confirmed receipt in an email two days later and let me know that he was going out of town on vacation and wouldn't be able to test out the microKeyer II for a bit. I emailed Dick again after Christmas and in January asking whether he was satisfied with the microKeyer II, but received no response either time.
On February 13th 2013, I received a notice from PayPal that Dick, WW4NC, had filed a reversal of charges for a fraudulent charge via his credit card company. As is standard procedure, PayPal placed a temporary hold on the funds in my account until this dispute was resolved. Again, I attempted to contact Dick and ask why he had filed the chargeback and whether there were any issues with the microKeyer II, but again received no response.
I don't know why Dick issued this chargeback against the purchase. It may have been that he forgot what exactly that purchase was for, it may be that the microKeyer II arrived damaged, or it may have been something more nefarious. I simply don't know as he hasn't responded to any of my emails since confirming delivery. Fortunately, I was able to provide PayPal with the tracking and insurance information from the shipment, along with the email from Dick confirming receipt of the package. As a result, PayPal released the hold on my funds, closed the reversal, and will deal with his credit card company; releasing me from any responsibility.
I do advise that if you do business with Dick Martin, WW4NC, that you make sure you take the appropriate precautions, such as shipping with full insurance and tracking (should go without saying), saving all correspondence and documentation, and I do recommend that you use PayPal; PayPal is fair if you have the appropriate documentation on hand.
Of course, these basic precautions should be true for any online transaction.
