1  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / ATAS System on: July 16, 2001, 07:41:42 PM
The ATAS100 will only work with the Yaesu when connected directly to the radio.  However there is a company (AM-COM) I believe, that advertised having a unit that will tune the antenna while attached to the ICOM-706 series.  I haven't looked for their ad lately but they use to advertise it in QST.  I have only used the ATAS with the FT-100 so could not tell you how it will perform with the 706.

2  eHam Forums / Licensing / Vanity call signs question on: May 02, 2001, 04:19:27 PM
There really is no difference between a regular call sign and a vanity call sign, other then with the vanity call you can request a specific call.  When you are granted your vanity call sign it will become your permanent call and  you will lose the call you now have.  You will keep the vanity through all upgrades unless you specifcally request that it be changed.  Keep in mind that when you request your vanity call sign you must keep the format within the authorized scheme for the license you hold at that time.

3  eHam Forums / Elmers / ft-100 problem on: March 30, 2001, 03:53:03 PM
After reading the reviews I still decided to purchase the FT-100.  Overall I have had no problems for 10 months until now.  I notice that when I tune the ATAS-100 antenna on 20 meters the radio emitts 100watts of power instead of the normal 10 watts.  This only happens on 20 meters.  On the rest of the bands I get the specified 10 watts tuning power.  Has anyone else ran into this problem or have a suggestion? I have e-mailed yaesu but no reply.

One of the best practice sites I have found is located at www.aa9pw.com.  Also an excellent source for practice on the written test.

5  eHam Forums / Elmers / FT-100D " S Meter" Reads Low ?? on: March 02, 2001, 08:21:28 AM
There is a way to adjust the s-meter from a menu system.  Go to   www.members.home.net/k0lee/   Once on his page scroll down until you see the link for "Check out my Ham Radio Page.  Click on that link.  You will be given a menu that will list a FT100FAQ.  Click on that.  This will give you a long list of different questions raised about the FT-100.  You will find a link for the S-meter.  It will show you how to enter a menu system on the radio that yaesu does not put in their manual.  However, although there are reports of the s-meters being really stingy, even if you adjust you can not be sure you have calibrated it correctly.

7  eHam Forums / Elmers / How do you connect coax from an indoor rig to an o on: December 04, 2000, 01:36:09 PM
W5PR solution to your problem will work fine.  When I first got into the hobby I lived in a town house.  I was confronted with the same problem.  I ran the insulating strips down my patio door and the cut out a samll piece at the bottom for the coax.  This allowed my door to form a seal without pinching the coax.  I then placed a piece of wood along the interior track of the door to prevent it from opening while I was gone.  The same should work with your window situation.
8  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / ATAS 100 Universal Tuner on: July 11, 2000, 04:42:09 PM
The remote tuner you are looking for is sold by Am-Com.  You can find it on their web site at www.amateurcommunications.com .    The also advertise in QST on a monthly basis.  Hope this helps.
