Hey HAMS,
Just a quick ? about that new soldering gun that advertized on television all the time called "Cold Heat"...I think!!
You know the one where you use it for it's intended purpus(sp?), and right after you can touch it without being burned.
Well is this a good gun to use for building our radio's? I thought someone here might have some time on this gun to give a good report.
Thx

This little rig looks awsome. Sounds even better too!
I've tried to write an e-mail but I'm not having any luck. Is this radio still being offerd?

6  eHam Forums / Elmers / RIT kit for SW+40 m on: March 06, 2004, 12:11:59 PM
Hi ya gang,
I know the RIT kit for the SW+40 m is no longer around, but if a person wanted to install one on the radio, how does one go about it? I myself really don't have a degree in this stuff, it's all pretty much new.
Afew days ago I ordered the little rig, and started to go over some of the Elmer 101 course pages....REALLY NEAT! Hope you guys out there do it again Smiley I'd really like to be able to shake the guys hands who had a part in all of that. I don't think that it's ever been done through-out history....what tribute to our hobby!
I've been reading, and what I have found says that Dave Benson of SWL has stopped selling the rit kit because the parts are no longer around. So any help in this area would be great.
Also would it be possible, and not to difficult to add alittle bandwidth (wide to narrow) to the little rig?
 Well thx again
...god i love this hobby Smiley

thx for the tip! I just purchased an ARRL 2004 handbook on Ebay for $28.00. So I think that book will cover alot for me. But I will check out the web site for a good theory on the gen. test.
My son needs it and I do also...it's been awhile Smiley
But were both enjoying the hobby.

Hello to all who might be reading this. After starting up again in HAM radio, im i've been really keen on building alot of equipment recently, even designing my own. However, I have a-long road ahead of me on that.
I'm looking for a book...2 really! One for my son, on passing his gen. test, however I'd like the book to really teach, and give the understanding that I desire.
I've picked up a book at Radio Shack thats ok for passing the test if you just remember each of the ?'s, and answers....but there's no real teaching going on.
 So thats book #1....any idea's?
The second book I'm interested in is a very complete understanding of electronics and theory. Something to get me started in the right path of understanding curcits, components, ect.....any idea's?
At this point my son and I are pretty much at the same level of compitance(sp?). Which I don't mind...pretty neat really...brings us closer together Smiley
Well sorry for the sloppy writting but I'm in a hurry...take care all

10  eHam Forums / QRP / 40m or 20m? on: January 29, 2004, 07:58:02 AM
Thanks for the help guys. I've also found that 40m seems to be open more then 20m, day and night....at least in NJ it seems that way.
My code copy is so slow that 40m seems to be the best choice right now. I'm able to tune out the big oversea's radio's with the IF shift, and thats a plus.
I think i'd have more luck finding someone on 40 that would tolerate my poor cw skills at the moment Smiley
Thx again guys, hope to hear ya on the air.

I've been away from ham radio for some time now, but with the help of my son were both getting back into it again. He just passed his tech. , and now is preparing for the gen.
With that in mind he's looking to purchase a qrp rig called the OHR 100a. The kit sounds like a real winner compared to all the others out there. So my ? is this...which band should he/we purchase?
Long distance.., and don't have to fight with the 5w would be nice. Well any help is great! Thx
12  eHam Forums / Elmers / designing RIT... on: January 22, 2004, 08:22:45 PM
A copy of that would be GREAT Smiley
If you happend to come across it please let me know.
Sounds like this might be a fun little radio. Even better if I can get some RIT. thx
13  eHam Forums / Elmers / designing RIT... on: January 17, 2004, 09:48:41 PM
First off...hello to all and happy new year!
This goes down as my first post here. I've been lurking around looking at the info on some qrp radio's trying to decide between SWL sw+20, and OHR 100a20m, as well as the DSW2 20m. Howevernthe waiting list on the SWL DSW2 is way to long for me to handle.
So im wondering how does one go about designing a RIT kit for the sw+? What are the basics involved? I know there used to be a RIT on the market, and since this little rig has been talked about alot amoungst qrp's then I thought I'd take a stab at it and see if someone else had any idea's where to begin?
thx and 73's Smiley
